Overview

About SAEC

The State Art Exhibition Competition is a state-level scheme of the Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department, Government of Gujarat. Its purpose is to promote fine arts and recognise artistic talent in the state, and it does so by giving cash awards and scholarships to selected participants.

Fine arts in Gujarat sit with the Gujarat Rajya Lalit Kala Akademi, an autonomous body under this department that works in painting, sculpture and the visual arts and confers state awards to artists in those fields. The exhibition competition follows the same remit: entries are shown and judged, and recognition carries a cash benefit.

The scheme is for individuals rather than institutions. Its named beneficiaries are practising artists, art students, and school children across Gujarat, so the recognition reaches both established artists and young people who are still learning.
