Overview

About SSDS-PUNJAB

The Scholarships to Students with Disabilities Scheme is a Punjab state scholarship run by the Department of Social Security and Women & Child Development, Government of Punjab, and in operation since 1996. It pays a monthly cash scholarship to students with disabilities who are enrolled in school, college or a training course.

The scheme's stated aim is to help students with disabilities secure academic, technical or professional education so they can earn a living and become useful members of society. Support reaches students as a recurring cash grant, with the amount set by the stage of study rather than a single lump sum.

Who qualifies is tied to the extent of a student's disability, the family's income and marks in the previous year's examination, so the scheme is aimed at students from lower-income households who meet those conditions rather than every disabled student in the state. Applications move through the head of the school, college or institute to the district social security officer, who handles them at the district level.
