About SREEHISPSHECIOUTP
This is a state welfare scheme run by the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Puducherry, through its division for the differently abled. It reimburses the educational expenses of hearing impaired students who take up special higher education courses, whether the institution is inside or outside the Union Territory of Puducherry.
The benefit is paid in cash, as a reimbursement of fees. Under the scheme the entire fee is met from the first year of the course onwards, so that a student's disability and the cost of specialised study do not stand in the way of continuing into higher education. The department also extends similar support to visually impaired students.
It is aimed at residents of Puducherry with a certified hearing impairment who are enrolled in a full-time special higher education course at a recognised institution. Applications are made through the Directorate of Social Welfare's differently-abled section rather than online, and the department verifies residence, income and disability before the fee is reimbursed.
