Overview

About UAWESMW-SW

The Uniform Allowance to the Wards of Ex-Servicemen/Widows is a welfare scheme run by the Department of Sainik Welfare, Puducherry. This department handles resettlement and welfare work for ex-servicemen and their families across the union territory. The uniform allowance is one of several educational supports it offers service families, alongside tuition-fee reimbursement.

The scheme pays a cash allowance towards the cost of a school or college uniform. It is meant for the children of ex-servicemen, and of widows of ex-servicemen, who study at government-recognised institutions. The aim is practical, to lift the recurring cost of uniforms off families that have served in the armed forces.

Support runs through the Department of Sainik Welfare, which the ex-serviceman or widow needs to be registered with, and it applies where the ward is enrolled at a government-recognised institution. The allowance amount, and the number of children it covers, are set by the department and listed with the scheme's eligibility terms.
