Overview
About RRGNV/RGAV
The Residential Rajiv Gandhi Navodaya Vidyalaya / Rajiv Gandhi Abhinav Vidyalaya scheme is a Uttarakhand state programme that provides free residential schooling from Class 6 to Class 12. A selected student studies, boards and eats at one of these schools at no cost, and the support covers accommodation, meals, study materials, uniforms and sports facilities. The benefit is given in kind, as schooling and boarding rather than a cash payment.
The scheme is run by the Department of Education, Government of Uttarakhand. The schools are coeducational residential institutions affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. Admission and the annual entrance test are handled by the Uttarakhand Board of School Education (Uttarakhand Vidyalayee Siksha Parishad) at Ramnagar, Nainital, which selects students for Class 6 on merit.
It is aimed at children from rural and economically weaker households who would otherwise have limited access to residential schooling. Entry is at Class 6 through the entrance examination, after which a selected student continues to Class 12. The stated aim is to give these students quality education along with all-round and skill development.
