About RTCCUK
The Rural Technology Complex (RTC) is a demonstration and training facility developed in 2001 at Kosi, Almora, by the G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment, an autonomous institute of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. It was set up to match technology to the needs of hill farmers, keeping their location-specific requirements in view.
The aim is to widen livelihood options in the Indian Himalayan region using local, need-based and environment-friendly technologies. Support is in kind rather than cash. The complex runs working demonstration units, including pine-needle processing, bio-briquetting, polyhouse cultivation, vermicompost and vermiwash production, and integrated fish farming, alongside hands-on training that helps residents add value to local resources and set up small enterprises.
The RTC works with individuals from hill communities, including farmers, cooperatives and self-help groups, who take short workshops and longer capacity-building courses at the centre and at field sites. Participants are first exposed to a range of technologies, then given deeper training in the model they choose.
