Overview

About RTFD

Rehabilitation Treatment for the Disabled is a state scheme run by the Social Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya, under its Disability Rehabilitation programme. It supports persons with disabilities in the state who need rehabilitative treatment and care.

The department records the benefit as in kind rather than cash, so the support reaches the beneficiary as treatment and rehabilitation services arranged by the state rather than as a money transfer. The Social Welfare Department's disability wing runs a set of allied measures alongside it, including free aids and appliances such as wheelchairs, crutches, white canes and hearing aids under the central ADIP scheme, scholarships for disabled students, and vocational training.

The scheme is for persons with disabilities living in Meghalaya. Applications are handled at the district level through the District Social Welfare Officer, and the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities oversees how these schemes are implemented across the state.
