Overview

About TMTSBG-PME

The Meghalaya Tribal Students' Book Grant (Post-Matric Education) is a state book grant run by the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, under the Education Department, Government of Meghalaya. It helps tribal students in the state meet the cost of buying books for their post-matriculation studies. The scheme is governed by the Meghalaya Tribal Students' Book-grant (Post-Matric Education) Rules, which came into force in 1982.

The support is paid as a cash grant. The amount is fixed by the course a student is enrolled in and runs across levels from higher secondary through degree, post-graduate and research study. The grant reaches students through their parents or guardians, or through the institution where they are studying.

The grant is meant for tribal students who are permanent residents of Meghalaya, drawn from the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo communities and any other tribe the state government may notify. It applies to regular, general courses at recognised institutions; technical and vocational courses, along with engineering, medical and paramedical streams, fall outside it, and selection is made on merit.
