Do the Dancers Get Any Money Themselves?

Not individually. TAG's results write each cash prize against the school, and the Best Choreographer prize against the person named as choreographer. The current norms promise certificates to winners. At the 2011 edition, TAG also gave certificates to every participating student, according to its 2009 to 2012 report.

Which Academy Runs This Dance Competition, and Is It the Sangeet Natak Akademi?

The Tiatr Academy of Goa runs it. Its scheme norms name TAG as the organiser and the body that pays the prizes. The Sangeet Natak Akademi, set up in 1953, is the national apex body for music, dance and drama, and an autonomous body of the Union Ministry of Culture (Sangeet Natak Akademi). It does not appear anywhere in this competition's rules.

How Is This Different From TAG's Other "Promotion of Patriotism/National Integration/Communal Harmony" Scheme?

Scheme 22 has the same opening title but pays a remuneration for producing a tiatr or musical programme of at least two hours on the same themes. It is open to an individual, organisation, educational institution or club, and TAG stages up to four shows. The application and script must reach TAG at least 30 days before the date of staging (scheme 22 norms). The dance competition is for schools only, and nothing has to be written or produced.

Can a Dance Academy or Village Troupe Enter?

Not this competition, because the applicant has to be an educational institution. TAG's scheme 23, Promotion of Konkani Songs with Choreography and Dancing, is a separate competition where a troupe or its leader applies. It takes groups of 6 to 10 participants dancing to one recorded Konkani song (scheme 23 norms).

Can Students of Std 11 or 12 Take Part?

No. The two categories cover Std I to IV and Std V to X, so a higher secondary troupe has no category to enter.

Can our dance group use a mixture of different patriotic songs to create a more diverse performance for the competition?

No, only one patriotic song in Konkani must be used to perform the dance. No fusion of different songs will be considered for evaluation.

What is the minimum and maximum number of students that can participate as dancers in our school's group?

Each participating group should consist of not less than 6 or more than 10 dancers to be eligible for the competition.

Are there different competition categories based on the age or standard of our participating students?

Yes, the competition is held in two categories: Standard 1st to Standard 4th and Standard 5th to Standard 10th.

How much traveling allowance will our school receive if we are located 25 kilometers away from the venue?

Participating groups coming from a distance of 20 kilometers or more will be paid ₹4,000/- as traveling allowance.

About PPNICH-ICDC

This listing is not a scholarship. The Promotion of Patriotism/National Integration/Communal Harmony scheme is the Tiatr Academy of Goa's yearly Interschool Choreographic Dance Competition: a school enters a troupe of six to ten children who dance to one recorded patriotic song in Konkani, and the best troupes win cash prizes, mementos and certificates. No student applies for anything: TAG's results write each cash prize against the winning school, and the Best Choreographer prize against the choreographer it names.

The Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) calls itself "A Government of Goa Undertaking" in its Report of the Activities 2023-2024, where this competition is listed as scheme 21 among the Academy's schemes. myScheme files it under Goa's Art, Culture and Museums Department, but the rules, the judging panel and the prize money all come from TAG.

The entrant is the educational institution. In TAG's published results, each placing is written against the school's name, while the Best Choreographer award goes to a named individual whose school need not finish in the top three: in 2023 it went to Vaishnavi Pai Kakode of Dr. K.B. Hedgewar High School, Cujira Bambolim, a school absent from that year's Std V to X podium (2023-2024 report). For the children the reward is a stage and a place on that results list, not a stipend.

The contest is older than its current rulebook. TAG's three-year report of activities for 2009 to 2012 records an edition on 18 August 2011 at Kala Academy, Panaji, with 30 schools taking part. Today the scheme 21 norms cap the field at 25 troupes, admitted on a first come, first served basis. For the edition on 29 August 2026 at Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda, TAG's press note put the number of schools taking part at 20.

With places going in order of arrival and no closing date printed, a school planning a troupe should ask the Academy well before August. The 2026 press note was no call for entries: it already counted the schools taking part.

Who can apply

Eligibility criteria

The rule that matters most is the song, not the school. The norms say nothing about a school's board, medium or management, and the 2024 podium had G.H.S. Ambaulim in Quepem, Vidyabhuvan Konkani Shalla in Margao and Don Bosco High School in Panaji on it (2024 results). What the rules do fix is the music: one patriotic Konkani recording, danced without mixing in other songs.

The two categories, Std I to IV and Std V to X, stop at Standard 10. A higher secondary section has no category to enter. A school can field a troupe in each category: the 2015-2018 report shows Vidhya Vihar High School, Thana, Cortalim placing first in Std I to IV and third in Std V to X at the August 2016 edition. The form has a single category box to tick, so a school entering both categories needs a separate form for each troupe.

The applicant must be an educational institution.

Who cannot apply

Exclusions

No exclusion list exists for scheme 21, but three of its norms shut entries out (scheme 21 norms). A form that reaches TAG after the 25th troupe has no place. A dance class or village troupe has nothing to write on a form whose first line asks for the name of the educational institution. And a medley is out, even of two Konkani patriotic songs: "No fusion of different songs will be considered".

Renewal conditions

A school re-enters by filing a new form for the next August edition, and a win does not bar it from coming back. Vidyabhuvan Konkani Shalla, Margao placed in the Std I to IV category in 2016, 2017 and 2018, according to the 2015-2018 report. It placed again in 2022, according to the 2022-2023 report, and it won that category outright in both 2023 and 2024, according to the 2023-2024 report and the 2024 results.

Every troupe that performs gets a travelling allowance based on how far its school is from the venue, plus refreshments for the dancers and the adult in charge of them. The norms reserve the cash, the memento and the certificate for the winners (scheme 21 norms). Each category has four awards: first, second and third place, and Best Choreographer.

The rupee amounts on myScheme come from the Academy's citizen's charter, and TAG paid exactly those rates at the 25 August 2018 edition at Ravindra Bhavan, Vasco, where the Std V to X winner received Rs 10,000 (2015-2018 report). TAG's own results for the 2023 and 2024 editions show smaller cash prizes, identical in both years:

The Academy's current scheme sheet prints no amounts at all. It says prizes are "as fixed by TAG" and that the travelling allowance is fixed by TAG according to the school's distance (scheme 21 norms). So the amounts myScheme lists are the charter's rates, not a promise for the next edition. TAG's published results for the 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022, 2023 and 2024 editions do not say how much travelling allowance was paid, so the distance bands in the charter are the only published figures.

What to prepare

Documents required

The form is about the performance, not the children. Beyond the items myScheme lists, it asks for the name and address of the educational institution. It ends with a declaration signed with the signatory's name and designation, so it goes in under someone who holds a post at the school (scheme 21 form). The declaration refers to a CD/DVD of the song.

Nothing on the scheme 21 form identifies a child beyond a name in the list of up to ten dancers. The trap is the next PDF on TAG's list: scheme 22 carries the same opening title, and its form wants self-attested Aadhaar and PAN copies and three typed copies of a script (scheme 22 norms). A form with a PAN field is the wrong one for this competition.

How to apply

The whole process is on paper, through the Academy's office in Panaji, with the song on a disc attached. On myScheme the competition carries no application link at all, and the DBT flag is off (myScheme). The route runs in four steps:

Download the scheme 21 sheet, which carries the norms and the application form and is linked under the competition's name on TAG's Schemes of TAG page. The same form is also inside the citizen's charter that myScheme links.
Fill in one form per troupe, ticking either Std I to IV or Std V to X, and list up to ten dancers and the choreographer.
Attach the recorded song on disc. It is returnable.
Submit the signed form, with the disc, to the TAG office at Campal Trade Centre, Panaji, the address myScheme gives.

The scheme 21 norms set no closing date. The only timing rule is the cap: the first 25 troupes get in (scheme 21 norms). myScheme's application steps add a line about submitting at least 30 days before the programme date (myScheme). That 30-day rule is written into TAG's scheme 22 for staging a patriotic tiatr, but it does not appear in the norms for this competition (scheme 22 norms).

Tracking an Entry and the Result

A paper form earns no application number, so whether a troupe got one of the 25 places under the scheme 21 norms is a question for the TAG office. myScheme advises keeping a copy of the submitted form and any acknowledgement (myScheme).

TAG's website carried a press note ahead of the 2026 edition: it gave the date, a 2.00 pm start and the count of 20 schools, but did not name them (2026 press note).

Prizes are given away on the day. In 2024 the chief guest gave away the prizes at the competition's own function at Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda, and TAG later posted the winners on its website. Results of earlier editions also appear in the Academy's yearly reports of activities.

How winners are picked

Selection process

Two filters decide the outcome. The first is arrival order, because only 25 troupes are admitted. The second is a panel of judges well versed in dance and choreography, whose decision is final and binding (scheme 21 norms). TAG publishes no marking scheme.

TAG's reports describe each recent panel as renowned dance choreographers, two per edition. It was David Furtado and Sapna Naik in 2022, according to the 2022-2023 report, and Saish Naik with Dr. Deeptha Rubasundaram in 2023, according to the 2023-2024 report. In 2024 it was Saish Naik with Pratika Marathe (2024 results).

Terms & conditions

Whoever signs the form for the school declares having read the competition rules and agrees to abide by them, and the judges' verdict is final and binding. TAG also keeps the right to change the rules, and the prize scale has already moved: the 2023 and 2024 cash prizes sit below the charter's. The recorded song disc is returnable, so a school should ask for it back after the event.
