Promotion of Tiatr Music(POTM)
Overview
About POTM
Promotion of Tiatr Music is a Goa state scheme launched by the Tiatr Academy of Goa under the Art, Culture and Museums Department, Government of Goa. Its aim is narrow and practical: to get more people learning the wind instruments a Tiatr band leans on, chiefly the trumpet and the saxophone. The Tiatr Academy of Goa runs the scheme and takes the applications.
Tiatr is a Konkani musical theatre form performed in Goa, built around acts that are broken up by songs, and those songs are carried by a live band. The scheme responds to a shortage of players for the blowing instruments that band needs, which the state ties to a decline in musicians.
The support comes as cash: reimbursement of tuition fees and a 50% subsidy on the cost of a medium-priced blowing instrument such as a saxophone, trumpet or clarinet, so a learner can take lessons and own the instrument they train on. The scheme is open to individuals, and it is aimed at young people and others who want to take up these instruments. Applicants must find a tutor, buy an instrument and undertake to serve the Tiatr stage, and the exact amounts and conditions are set out in the scheme's official terms.
