Overview

About PMRS

The Pre-Matric Scholarship (PMRS) is an Uttar Pradesh state scheme for schoolchildren from Other Backward Classes (OBC) families at the pre-matriculation stage. It is run by the State Backward Classes Welfare Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh, and is meant to keep OBC students in school by easing the cost of education on their families and lowering dropout rates.

The benefit is paid in cash and described by the department as fee reimbursement and financial assistance: a monthly stipend of ₹150 for up to ten months, plus an annual ad hoc grant of ₹750, to a maximum of ₹2,250 a year. It is open to OBC students who are natives of Uttar Pradesh and studying within the state at government, aided or recognised institutions, where the parents' or guardians' annual income does not exceed ₹2 lakh.

Applications are made online through the state scholarship portal, and the approved amount is credited directly to the student's bank account. Because benefit rates, income limits and eligibility can be revised between cycles, confirm the current terms against the department's own scheme notification before applying.
