Overview

About PMCUP

The SC/ST Pre Matric Scholarship is a cash scholarship run by the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Uttar Pradesh, for students from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe families. It supports study at the pre-matric stage, the years before matriculation, so that the cost of schooling does not push an eligible student out before Class 10.

Scholarships of this kind are delivered by state social welfare departments within a national policy framework. For Scheduled Caste students that framework is anchored by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, which sets policy while state governments identify eligible students within their own territory and disburse the grant. In Uttar Pradesh the state's Social Welfare Department is the nodal body that runs the scheme.

The scholarship is meant for SC and ST students who are resident in Uttar Pradesh and studying at the pre-matric level. It is a direct cash benefit, applied for online during the state's annual scholarship cycle. The income ceiling, the class-wise amount and the documents required are fixed by the department each year, so a student should confirm the current terms before applying.
