The test date is the part that moves. For 2026-27 it was first fixed for 15 February 2026 and shifted to 22 February 2026 because of the Mahashivratri holiday, with centres to be settled before the new date (directorate letter). Read the advertisement for the year you are applying in, because the membership condition moves between cycles. The 2026-27 notice for the Lucknow school opened the test to construction workers registered with the board and currently renewed who had completed at least three years of board membership as on 30 November 2025, and to children orphaned by Covid-19 who are registered with the Women and Child Welfare Department or eligible under the Chief Minister Child Service Scheme in its general category, with at most two children from one registered worker's family (Atal Awasiya Vidyalaya Lucknow admission notice, session 2026-27).

Age is the condition parents most often misjudge, because it is written as a date of birth band and not as a class-completed rule.

Both ends of a band are inclusive, in the instructions' own words, and no relaxation is announced for either class. Those are the only two bands the notice publishes, and the 2026-27 paper was held for entry to Class 6 and Class 9 alone.

The scheme record carries no exclusion list, so the practical grounds for rejection come from the entrance notice. An incomplete application is not accepted; the form has to be countersigned by the principal or head teacher of the child's previous school; a registered worker's form must carry a photocopy of the registration card issued by the board; and a declaration later found to be untrue can end the candidature, with the District Magistrate holding the final decision (general instructions).

The renewal that matters sits on the parent's side. The entrance notice asks for a construction worker who is duly registered and whose registration is up to date and renewed on the qualifying date, so a lapsed labour registration is what breaks the claim, not anything the student does (Lucknow admission notice).

Nothing under this scheme reaches a bank account. What a selected child gets is a residential seat, with free schooling, lodging and meals running from Class 6 to Class 12 inside the campus (Uttar Pradesh Budget 2026-27 highlights). The figures worth reading before the form goes in are the ones that show how narrow the entry is.

For 2026-27 the directorate added one instruction on top of that fresh intake: the seats lying vacant in Class 8 at each school are to be counted into the total to be filled (directorate letter to the divisional monitoring committees).

Beyond the papers the scheme record lists, the entrance notice adds handling rules that quietly reject forms. The same passport size photograph has to be pasted on the application and on the admit card attached to it, the admit card must be filled in completely except for the exam date and centre, and every field on the form has to be filled (general instructions).

A second set of papers is produced later, at admission rather than at application: original certificates including the birth certificate, a caste certificate in the prescribed format for a candidate provisionally selected in the scheduled caste, scheduled tribe or other backward class categories, a medical certificate signed by the district Chief Medical Officer for a candidate in the disability category, and a gender certificate in the prescribed format for a transgender candidate (general instructions).

One sequencing point saves a family real trouble: apply for the transfer certificate from the previous school only after the Atal school has verified the papers and confirmed admission, which is what the notice itself advises (general instructions).

Both routes are open and neither replaces the other. Offline forms are distributed at the regional Additional Labour Commissioner's office, the District Probation Officer at the collectorate, the District Inspector of Schools, the Basic Shiksha Adhikari, the District Magistrate's office and the Chief Development Officer's office, and the same form can be downloaded from the district notice (Lucknow admission notice). A registered worker can instead apply online on the board's portal at upbocw.in or by scanning the QR code circulated with the directorate's letter, while the offline process stays exactly as it was (directorate letter).

Tracking runs on the board's own portal, not on a scheme dashboard. Its Schemes menu carries Scheme Application Status; its Worker menu carries Know Your Registration Number and Registration Status, with renewal handled on the board's labour portal. Those pages are about the parent's record rather than the child's form, which is the point: a lapsed or still-pending registration surfaces there before it costs a seat.

For the child's application the checkpoints are physical. The admit card carries the centre name and address and is sent in advance, and the result is displayed at the school, on the board's website, at the district labour office and at the District Probation Officer's office (general instructions).

Selection rests on one objective paper, written in Hindi or English, answered on a separate OMR sheet with a blue ballpoint pen.

Candidates with a disability get 40 minutes of extra time. There is no provision for re-evaluation or re-totalling of the answer sheet, and the result for the 2026-27 Lucknow test was expected by 10 March 2026 (general instructions).

Clearing the paper is not admission. Selection is provisional, and a selected candidate becomes a student only after the school verifies the original documents (general instructions). Seats are then filled with reservation applied under the Uttar Pradesh Educational Institutions Admission (Reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes) Act, 2006 (directorate letter).

The condition worth reading twice is that the paper is tied to a school. The Lucknow test was conducted for Atal Awasiya Vidyalaya, Sithauli Kalan, Mohanlalganj, Lucknow, and is not valid for admission to any other school (general instructions).

Exam-hall rules are strict and are enforced on the day. A candidate has to report 30 minutes before the paper starts, is refused entry 15 minutes after it begins, cannot leave the room before the paper ends, must carry the original admit card, and may not bring any electronic device into the centre (general instructions).

Two smaller conditions decide individual cases. A transgender candidate submits a gender certificate in the prescribed format from the competent authority, and there is no separate reservation for that category.
