Overview

About PMSSEBC

The Pre-Matric Scholarship for the Students of Economically Backward Class is a Gujarat state scholarship for children in classes 1 to 10. It pays a cash award each year to help families from an economically backward background meet the running costs of schooling before the class 10 board year.

The scheme is run by the Social Justice and Empowerment Department, Government of Gujarat. Within that department the Director of Developing Castes Welfare administers scholarships for the socially and educationally backward, economically backward and minority categories, and applications for Gujarat scholarships are handled through the state scholarship portal.

The benefit is an annual cash scholarship, with the amount set by the department and varying by class and other conditions. Its aim is to keep economically weaker students enrolled through the pre-matric years by lowering the burden of education expenses.

It is meant for resident Gujarat students in classes 1 to 10 whose families fall within the economically backward category as defined by the state. The exact income limits and documents needed to apply are set by the department.
