Overview

About PECS

The Pre-Examination Coaching Scheme is run by the Tribal Welfare Department of the Uttarakhand government for students from Scheduled Tribe communities in the state. It pairs two forms of help: free coaching for competitive examinations and a monthly scholarship paid to the candidate while the coaching runs.

The coaching prepares Scheduled Tribe students for a range of competitive exams, among them the civil services (IAS), the state Public Service Commission (PCS) exams, engineering and medical entrance tests, nursing and National Defence Academy (NDA) entrance, and Group C recruitment. It is delivered through government, non-government, and private institutions approved by the state. The monthly scholarship is ₹1,500 for external (non-local) students and ₹750 for local students.

Eligibility runs to Scheduled Tribe students who have passed High School, Intermediate, or graduation and are preparing for one of the listed exams. Applications are made offline at the office of the Tribal Welfare Department, and candidates are shortlisted on the marks scored in their last qualifying examination. The scheme is listed on the Government of India's myScheme portal.
