Overview

About PFDOST

Printing and Free Distribution of Sanskrit Textbooks is a state scholarship scheme for students of Sanskrit schools in Uttarakhand. It covers students from Class 1 through Class 12 and is administered by the state's Department of Sanskrit Education.

The scheme's purpose is to support Sanskrit study at the school level by easing the cost of prescribed Sanskrit textbooks. Eligible students receive annual financial assistance as a cash benefit, with the amount set according to the class they are studying in.

Uttarakhand runs a distinct stream of Sanskrit schools alongside its general schools, and in 2010 it became the first Indian state to adopt Sanskrit as a second official language beside Hindi. This textbook scheme is one part of that wider state support for Sanskrit-medium schooling.

The benefit is meant for individual students enrolled in Sanskrit schools within Uttarakhand, across Classes 1 to 12. Students outside these schools, or in other states, are not covered.
