Overview

About NASHELGGDC

The New Akanksha Scheme (Higher Education Loan) is a state education-finance programme run by the Gujarat Gopalak Development Corporation, the Gopalak development body under the Social Justice and Empowerment Department of the Government of Gujarat. Through it, the corporation lends to students so they can meet the upfront cost of a professional degree.

The support takes the form of a loan rather than an outright grant, covering up to Rs 15.00 lakh toward the cost of a professional degree. Interest is charged at 3.5 per cent for women and 4 per cent for men, and the money is meant for higher professional study, courses such as medicine, dentistry, engineering and pharmacy at institutions recognised by bodies like AICTE, the UGC or a recognised university.

Eligibility is narrow. The loan is for students from the Rabari and Bharwad communities, which the state counts among its socially and educationally backward classes, who live in Gujarat and have secured admission to an approved course. Applicants outside these groups are not covered, and applications are made online through the corporation.
