Overview

About MUKUCY

Uttarakhand's Department of Sports pays Rs 1,500 a month to 150 boys and 150 girls in every district, 3,900 children across the state in a year, and the decision is settled on a running track rather than in a file (Department of Sports, Uttarakhand). The department's stated purpose is narrow and practical: develop the skill of the state's emerging players, lift their achievements, keep them attached to sport, and build a pool of players for the years ahead.

The child it is built for is a young player still in an ordinary school, training wherever their coach happens to be, and not yet absorbed into a residential sports set-up. The scholarship is a retention payment at the age where children quietly drop out of sport, not a training grant and not a fee waiver.

Calendar

Important dates

The calendar exists as an annual routine rather than as a dated notification. The myScheme entry sets out the routine the Sports Directorate follows: the selection schedule goes out as an advertisement in April, and the rounds are ordinarily finished between the middle of May and the middle of June. The press note fixes no state-wide date at all and leaves the trial day and the venue to the concerned District Sports Officer (press note, Director Sports, Uttarakhand).

District practice moves around that window. Chamoli and Uttarkashi both put out their 2025-26 selected lists in April 2025, while Udham Singh Nagar posted its result list for the earlier cycle in October 2024. Treat the district sports office as the calendar, and check the district website in the weeks after the trial rather than waiting for a state notification.

Who can apply

Eligibility criteria

Three things decide it: where the family lives, when the child was born, and how the child measures on six timed and measured items against the others in the same age band.

The birth date matters more than parents expect. Age is counted from 01 July of the selection year, so a child born in late June and a classmate born in mid-July sit in different age groups, and the difference can put one of them against children nearly a year older (press note, Director Sports, Uttarakhand).

The second surprise is that the first cut is made by the school. A school may put forward only two boys and two girls per age group, and it chooses them itself before any government official is involved. A fast child in a large school can therefore be stopped at the school gate by a school-level decision nobody appeals.

Neither the department's scholarship page nor its press note sets an income ceiling, a caste category quota or a marks condition. Residence, age band and the fitness result are the whole test.

The applicant must be a permanent resident of Uttarakhand.
The applicant must be a boy or girl between 8 and 14 years of age.
The boy or girl who obtain the highest marks based on merit in the final district-level competition, conducted through various stages of the Physical and Sports Aptitude Test (P-SAT) assessing physical abilities such as strength, flexibility, endurance, speed, and coordination, will be eligible for the sports scholarship.

Who cannot apply

Exclusions

myScheme publishes no exclusion list for this scheme, but the department's own press note carries one: a boy or girl already training in a sports hostel or a sports college run by the State Government or the Sports Authority of India cannot take this scholarship. Children inside the residential pipeline are already funded by it, and this money is meant to reach the ones outside.

Two conditions work as exclusions in practice even though they are written as procedure. Registration at the Nyay Panchayat or ward level is compulsory, so a child who turns up only on the day of a later round has no standing. And attested copies of the age certificate, Aadhaar card and permanent residence certificate have to be carried to the trial by the participant, which means a document sitting at home is the same as a document that does not exist.

Continuation

Renewal conditions

There is no renewal form and no continuation condition to satisfy. The award runs for one year, and the department holds fresh selection every year, so a child who wants a second year goes back to the school stage and earns the place again against a new cohort. A child who ages out of the top band leaves the scheme entirely.

What you get

Award & benefits

The payment is Rs 1,500 a month for one year (Department of Sports, Uttarakhand), and it lands in a bank account rather than at a school counter. The application form asks for the account number, the IFSC code, the bank name and the branch (application form). There is no equipment allowance, no kit grant and no coaching cost attached at this age.

The seats are fixed before anyone competes, split evenly across six one-year age bands, which is why a district's fastest ten-year-old is competing against other ten-year-olds and not against the district.

  • Under this scheme, players aged 8 to 14 years are selected every year on the basis of the Physical and Sports Aptitude Test (P-SAT).
  • From each district, 150 boys and 150 girls are selected (25 boys and 25 girls from each age group: 8–9 years, 9–10 years, 10–11 years, 11–12 years, 12–13 years, and 13–14 years).
  • Each selected player is awarded a scholarship of ₹1,500/- per month for one year.

What to prepare

Documents required

The binding list is the one a trial officer checks on the ground, not one uploaded in advance. The press note requires attested copies of the age certificate, the Aadhaar card and the permanent residence certificate to be brought to the trial by the participant.

The paper form goes further than that short list. It asks for the child's name written in Hindi and again in English capitals, an attested photograph, both parents' names, the ward and Nagar Palika or Nagar Nigam name alongside the development block, a mobile number belonging to the child or the guardian, and the full bank details. A family that carries the bank passbook to the trial can fill those fields on the spot instead of chasing them afterwards.

Step by step

How to apply

The entry point is the school, and the mode is offline. The sequence runs: the school selects its two boys and two girls per age group, the child is registered at the Nyay Panchayat or ward level, and the trials then move upward through the block or municipal round to the district round. The one-page form carries a line at the top for the first trial venue that an official fills in, so a family does not pick where the child appears.

Dates and venues are not published centrally. The concerned District Sports Officer is the person who gives them out, and the department's press note sends families to their district sports office and to www.sports.uk.gov.in/Scholarship for anything further (press note, Director Sports, Uttarakhand).

Where the Selected List Is Published

Once the form is handed over at the trial ground there is nothing a family can look up: it is a single sheet that ends at the candidate's signature with no receipt counterfoil, and the department runs no portal for it (application form). What does get published is the outcome: each district administration puts its own district-level selected list on the district website. Chamoli carried its 2025-26 list as a notice from 16/04/2025 (Chamoli district administration), Uttarkashi published the same year's list on 16-04-2025 (Uttarkashi district administration), and Udham Singh Nagar posted its result list for the previous year on 05/10/2024 (Udham Singh Nagar district administration). The practical routine for a family is to watch the notice section of their own district's site and to keep the district sports office number handy, since the payment reaches the account named on the form and any correction to that account has to go back through the same office.

How winners are picked

Selection process

The final list is a district merit list, and the whole process runs under the supervision of a committee chaired by the District Magistrate rather than by the sports department alone. Below that, committees at each level run the physical efficiency test the press note prescribes, and the child's result is the only input. The department publishes the norms for it separately, as a battery test for this younger age band, while the myScheme entry records the same exercise as the Physical and Sports Aptitude Test.

Development blockEntries from the Nyay Panchayat roundSix boys and six girls, to the district round
Nagar PalikaEntries from all schoolsThree boys and three girls, to the district round
Nagar NigamEntries from all schoolsSix boys and six girls, to the district round

Three hill districts get a wider funnel than the rest of the state. In Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Champawat, a development block sends ten boys and ten girls per age group to the district round instead of six, and a Nagar Palika sends five of each instead of three, which is the department's answer to thin school density in the higher valleys.

The test itself is deliberately sport-neutral at this age. It measures running, jumping, flexibility, agility and throwing strength, so a child is not asked to have chosen a discipline yet. Sport-specific norms, published separately for basketball, football, hockey, judo, kabaddi, karate, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball and boxing, belong to the department's older scholarship for players aged 14 to 23, not to this one.

Fine print

Terms & conditions

The award is a one-year term with no automatic continuation, and the merit list fixed at the district round is where a place is settled. Payment follows the bank account written on the form, so an account in a sibling's name, a closed account or a mistyped IFSC stops the transfer even after selection.

Registration at the Nyay Panchayat or ward level is compulsory, unattested copies are not accepted at the trial, and a child in a state or Sports Authority of India sports hostel or sports college is outside the scheme even if they win the trial.

Contact

The working contact is the district sports office of the child's own district. The department publishes a district-wise directory of District Sports Officers, deputy sports officers and assistant coaches with their mobile numbers, alongside the Directorate of Sports staff at Dehradun (Department of Sports officials list). Email is not a usable route: the department's own Contact Us page still carries the unfilled NIC template text in place of a postal address or a web information manager's email (Department of Sports contact page).
