About MAPVMY

Bihar's Mukhyamantri Atyant Pichhda Varg Medhavriti Yojana pays Rs 10,000, once, to an Extremely Backward Class (EBC) student who passes the Class 10 examination of the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), Patna, in the first division. Its Backward Class counterpart pays the same sum but only where family income is up to Rs 1,50,000 a year; the state's description of the EBC award carries no such limit (Gender Budget 2024-25, Finance Department, Government of Bihar). The result makes a student eligible, but the money moves only into a bank account whose Aadhaar is seeded for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), a condition the Education Department's Matric portal spells out (Matric 2026 portal, Medhasoft).

The BC and EBC Welfare Department's annual report says the state has run the scheme since the 2008-09 financial year, to encourage EBC boys and girls who live permanently in Bihar towards higher education (BC and EBC Welfare Department annual report). The state's Gender Budget lists the same scheme under a shorter English name, the Mukhyamantri EBC Medhavritti Yojana, among that department's programmes (Gender Budget 2024-25). Both documents describe the award as going to every EBC student who passes in the first division; neither mentions a merit ranking or a cap on the number of awards.

The welfare department owns the scheme, but the myScheme record names the Education Department as the implementing agency (myScheme record). That department's online channel for matric awards is Medhasoft, whose Matric 2026 portal asks BSEB matric passers to register for the 2026 incentive and medhavriti scholarship amounts, without listing the schemes by name (Matric 2026 portal, Medhasoft).

No closing date is published. myScheme lists no opening or closing date, and the Matric portal gives only a start, online registration from 25 May 2026 (Matric 2026 portal, Medhasoft). In September 2026 the Medhasoft home page still marked the 2026 matric registration open, with no end date beside it (Medhasoft).

Each result year gets its own entry: Medhasoft's application-status selector asks for a financial year, from 2022 to 2026, before the Matric scheme can be picked (scheme selection, Medhasoft). Trust the dated notice on the portal's home page over its instruction page, which in September 2026 still said the portal was open only to the 2025 batch (instructions, Matric 2026 portal).

Eligibility criteria

Of the four conditions in the scheme record, category and board do the real sorting.

The category is the Extremely Backward Class, which the record labels BC-I. Bihar keeps its Backward Class list separately, and a student on that list who scores a first division is paid, if at all, under the Backward Class scheme, not this one. The board is fixed too: only the BSEB, Patna matric counts, so a Class 10 pass from another board is outside the scheme, as is a second division (myScheme record).

Income is where the EBC and BC awards part company. The Backward Class scheme is open only to families earning up to Rs 1,50,000 a year, while the same budget document's entry for the EBC scheme sets no income condition (Gender Budget 2024-25). Neither the myScheme record nor the department's annual report adds one, so on the published terms a family's income does not bar an EBC student (BC and EBC Welfare Department annual report).

Residence is declared on the Matric 2026 registration page, where each applicant confirms living in Bihar and consents to the use of their Aadhaar number to establish identity for state benefits (registration page, Matric 2026 portal).

Who cannot apply

Exclusions

myScheme publishes no exclusion list for this scheme. Its conditions, and the declarations on the Education Department's Matric portal, still rule out:

• a first division from any board other than the BSEB, and any second-division BSEB result;
• a student on the Backward Class list rather than the Extremely Backward Class (BC-I) list;
• a student who was married when the Class 10 result came out, where the claim is made on the Matric 2026 portal: its registration page asks every applicant to declare they were unmarried at that point and warns of legal action over a false declaration (registration page, Matric 2026 portal).

Renewal conditions

Nothing carries forward. The award is paid once against one examination result, and the Matric portal's instructions say a student receives its scholarship only once (instructions, Matric 2026 portal). Help with fees after Class 10 has to come from a different scheme, such as the BC and EBC post-matric scholarship, which opens a fresh online application for each academic session (Post Matric Scholarship BC-EBC portal).

The award is a lump sum of Rs 10,000 per student (Gender Budget 2024-25), paid once and sent by DBT to the student's own bank account (myScheme record).

The two awards match on amount and on the result they reward, so the category on the student's caste certificate decides which of them applies.

What to prepare

The school-routed list below is myScheme's. The Matric 2026 portal works differently: it wants scans of just two papers, the Class 10 marksheet and both sides of the Aadhaar card (registration page, Matric 2026 portal), and takes everything else as typed data, from the BSEB registration and roll numbers, total marks and division to the date of birth as recorded for Class 10, plus category, gender, two mobile numbers and an email address (instructions, Matric 2026 portal).

Of the papers in the record's list, the caste certificate carries the most weight: it shows the student is on the BC-I list, the fact that routes the claim here and not to the Backward Class award. Keep it ready with the residence certificate the record also names.

Step by step

How to apply

The two official accounts of this step differ. The myScheme record describes an offline process in which the student hands documents to the school and eligible students are taken from a list the BSEB supplies (myScheme record). For 2026, the Education Department's Matric portal instead invites BSEB matric passers to register online for incentive and medhavriti amounts, with registration open from 25 May 2026 (Matric 2026 portal, Medhasoft). Handing the papers to the school and also registering on the portal covers both accounts, and the portal route is the one that comes with an online status check.

Registration on the Matric portal, as its instructions set it out (instructions, Matric 2026 portal):

1. From the Medhasoft home page, open the Year 2026 entry under the 10th-passed heading; any of its three numbered links works.
2. Accept the declarations and register, typing every detail as the board marksheet shows it.
3. Wait for the department and the bank to verify the account. Only then does BRGOVT send the user ID and password by SMS, and that login opens the rest of the application, which ends in a final submit. The English instructions say to use the Get User ID and Password option if nothing comes within 10 days; the Hindi text says 15 days (instructions, Matric 2026 portal).

Tracking the Claim

Checking status needs three things: the registration number, the date of birth, and the phone that was registered, because the Application Status page shows nothing until an OTP sent to that phone is entered (application status, Matric 2026 portal). A family that registers with a borrowed or soon-to-lapse number can lose sight of the claim altogether, so keep that SIM active until the money arrives.

A claim that has not moved may be waiting on the account check. The portal asks registrants to wait while the department and the bank verify the account, will not pay an account whose Aadhaar is not seeded, and tells students to take that problem to their bank (Matric 2026 portal, Medhasoft).

How winners are picked

Selection process

There is no ranking and no interview. The myScheme record says eligible students are drawn from the list the BSEB supplies, and that payment follows once documents are verified and the Education Department authorises it (myScheme record). On the portal route the one added gate is the bank-account verification that the department and the bank carry out after registration (Matric 2026 portal, Medhasoft).

The Matric portal binds the applicant to a few rules of its own (instructions, Matric 2026 portal; Matric 2026 portal):

• the details entered must match the board marksheet, and the name on Aadhaar must match the applicant's;
• the mobile number and email address, the student's or a family member's, must be unique to the registration and kept active for alerts;
• the login is not to be shared, and an applicant who lets a cyber cafe fill the form answers for any mistake it makes;
• a final-submitted form cannot be changed, and the instructions ask for a printed copy to be kept for future reference.

Payment reaches only a bank account whose Aadhaar is seeded for DBT (Matric 2026 portal, Medhasoft).
