Overview

About MGBGHSC

The Maintenance of Govt Boys and Girls Hostels (SC) scheme is run by the Government of Gujarat's Social Justice and Empowerment Department and administered through its Directorate of Scheduled Caste Welfare, based at Dr. Jivraj Mehta Bhavan in Gandhinagar. The department maintains a network of government boys' and girls' hostels across the state's districts for students from Scheduled Caste communities.

The support is given in kind rather than as a cash transfer. A resident student receives free accommodation together with food and academic facilities, so that the cost of living away from home does not push a student to stop studying after school.

The scheme is meant for Scheduled Caste students who are continuing their education after the SSC (Class 10) stage, covering higher secondary, undergraduate and postgraduate study. Places are limited to the sanctioned capacity of each hostel, and who qualifies follows the department's own criteria.
