About MMGMY

The Mukhyamantri Gyansetu Merit Scholarship Yojana is decided in Class 5, not Class 6. Gujarat's State Examination Board runs one Common Entrance Test (CET), and the 30,000 best-ranked children who studied Classes 1 to 5 in government or aided schools get a yearly scholarship for every class from 6 to 12. What a family actually receives depends on the school it picks after the result, and whether the money keeps coming depends on attendance.

Gyan Setu started as a plan for day schools, one per taluka. The Education Department's resolution of 7 June 2023 records why that changed: many talukas had more than one qualifying school but only one could join, others had very few, and toppers were left with thin options, so the state turned the idea into a scholarship the child carries to a school the family picks, in its own district or another (Education Department resolution, 7 June 2023). The state's budget note places the launch, for Classes 6 to 12, in 2023-24 (Finance Department budget note).

The resolution names the Director of Schools as the implementing officer, and the scheme portal, gssyguj.in, is published under the Director of Schools' office in Gandhinagar (Education Department resolution, 7 June 2023; gssyguj.in). On 24 June 2025 the Chief Minister's Office reported over Rs 31 crore paid by direct benefit transfer to 60,000 Gyan Setu students, twice the yearly intake of 30,000 (CMO Gujarat, 24 June 2025).

The competition is steep. The Board's result notice counts 589,640 children who sat CET 2026, so the 30,000 Gyan Setu places come to roughly one for every twenty candidates (State Examination Board, CET 2026-27 result notice; CMO Gujarat).

The CET has moved earlier: the 2025-26 paper was written on 22 March 2025, the 2026-27 paper on 31 January 2026 (CET 2025-26 registration guide; CET 2026-27 result notice). The 2026-27 cycle ran as follows; two dates are quoted exactly as the portal prints them, in Gujarati digits, with the English reading beside them.

Two further rounds followed for children still without an allotment, and the portal records their allotments as declared on "તા.૧૩-૦૬-૨૦૨૬" and "તા.૧૩-૦૭-૨૦૨૬", the thirteenth of June and the thirteenth of July (gssyguj.in notices). As of late September 2026 the Board's notice list at sebexam.org carries no CET 2027 notification; the 2026 one came out on 1 December 2025.

Who can apply

Eligibility criteria

"Continuous" is the word that trips families. The child must have studied every year from Class 1 to Class 5 in a government or aided primary school, and the CET 2026 notification spells out what counts: schools run by the government, a panchayat, a municipality or municipal corporation, government or aided schools under the Tribal Development Department, and schools run by the Tribal Education Society (State Examination Board, CET 2026 notification). The portal checks this against the child's Child Tracking System history, and where that history is missing it asks for a certificate from the Class 5 principal (CET document list).

Children taught under the RTE quota in a private school get three different answers from three official texts, and none of them has been reconciled with the others. The resolution of 7 June 2023 names only government and aided primary schools (Education Department resolution, 7 June 2023). The Education Department's scheme page, as it read in September 2026, also counts children who finished Class 5 in self-financed schools under the RTE Act, 2009, and the myScheme record carries the same RTE wording (Education Department scheme page; myScheme record). The State Examination Board's CET 2026 notification, dated 1 December 2025, lets pupils of self-financed or private schools sit the test only for Raksha Shakti school seats (State Examination Board, CET 2026 notification). An RTE-quota family should put the question to the District Primary Education Officer before its Class 5 school files the CET form.

The resolution sets no family-income test (Education Department resolution, 7 June 2023).

Who cannot apply

Exclusions

No exclusion list exists for Gyan Setu; the shut-outs sit inside the CET notification and the portal guides. Under the CET 2026 notification, a pupil who finished Class 5 in a self-financed or private school could take the test for Raksha Shakti seats alone, not for Gyan Setu. The Board's chairman can cancel the result of a candidate who hid or misstated information on the form, and a candidate who tries to bring influence to bear is disqualified (State Examination Board, CET 2026 notification).

After the result, the commonest loss is procedural. The choice-filling guide warns that a child on the merit list who does not finish choice filling in time is taken as not wanting any scheme and is left off the final merit list (CET 2026-27 choice-filling guide). A child who takes Class 6 admission and then stops studying loses the rest of the benefit (Commissionerate registration instructions).

Renewal conditions

Nobody reapplies each year. The award runs from Class 6 to Class 12, and the resolution withholds it from a pupil who fails any class along the way, drops out of school, or faces serious disciplinary action (Education Department resolution, 7 June 2023).

Attendance is the lever inside each year, and the two official texts time it differently. The Commissionerate's instructions pay the first instalment, "૫૦% રકમ" of the year's scholarship, by DBT on the strength of "૮૦% હાજરી" (eighty per cent attendance) in the first semester (Commissionerate registration instructions), the reading the myScheme record also gives. The resolution releases the very first half once the district officer has verified the Class 6 admission, and puts the attendance test on every half after that, each judged on the semester just finished. Either way, the resolution makes the school responsible for entering attendance on the Vidya Samiksha Kendra's online attendance portal, so gaps in the school's entries can hold up a child's instalment (Education Department resolution, 7 June 2023).

A pupil may change school only when an academic year ends, only to a listed school or a government or aided school the rules allow, and only after uploading the new school's General Register certificate with the principal's signature and stamp. If the Director drops a school from the list, children already studying there can stay until Class 12 (Education Department resolution, 7 June 2023).

The slab follows the school, not the marks. A child who joins a self-financed school on the Director of Schools' list gets the higher private-school rate; a child who stays in a government or aided school studies free and gets the smaller amount on top (Education Department resolution, 7 June 2023). For Classes 11 and 12 the Commissionerate's instructions print "રૂ. ૨૫,૦૦૦/-" a year for a listed private school against "રૂ. ૭,૦૦૦/-" in a government or aided school, so the private route pays more than three times as much at that stage (Commissionerate registration instructions).

The private rate is not a full fee waiver. Where the fee fixed under the Gujarat Self-Financed Schools (Regulation of Fees) Act, 2017 exceeds the scholarship, the resolution makes the parent pay the difference to the school (Education Department resolution, 7 June 2023). In a school that runs some classes as aided and others as self-financed, the private rate applies only to the self-financed classes. The same resolution adds a free bus pass on top of the cash and commits the state to consider raising the amounts every three academic years.

• Government Schools and Government -aided Schools (Approved by Education Department): For Class 6th to 8th: ₹5,000/- per year.
• For Class 9th to 10th: ₹6,000/- per year.
• For Class 11th to 12th: ₹7,000/- per year.
• Private (Selected) Schools: For Class 6th to 8th: ₹20,000/- per year.
• For Class 9th to 10th: ₹22,000/- per year.
• For Class 11th to 12th: ₹25,000/- per year.
• Frequency of Disbursement: Disbursed annually in two installments; the first 50% is given after confirmation of at least 80% attendance in the first semester.

What to prepare

Documents required

The myScheme record lists only an income certificate, yet the Commissionerate's own CET document list does not ask for one. That list asks, as each case applies, for a birth certificate, the guardian's caste certificate for ST, SC, OBC or EWS children, a disability certificate from the civil surgeon, a land-donor certificate, a PVTG or DNT, NT or SNT certificate, the father's death certificate for a widowed mother's child, a disability certificate for a disabled parent, the parents' death certificates for an orphan, a doctor's certificate where a parent died of COVID or in left-wing extremist or insurgent violence, and proof of residence, either a domicile certificate or the principal's certificate in the set format (CET document list).

Two things come later. After Class 6 admission, the school issues a certificate carrying the child's General Register number with the principal's signature and stamp, and the parent uploads it on the portal (Education Department resolution, 7 June 2023). The scholarship then goes by DBT to the student's or parent's bank account, so that account has to be in working order before the first instalment (Commissionerate registration instructions).

Step by step

How to apply

Families do not fill the CET form themselves. Under the CET 2026 notification, the child's own primary school logs in to the Samagra Shiksha portal with its DISE code and a teacher's code, opens the Class 5 list, and completes a form for each pupil, free of charge; forms can also be filled at model schools and BRC and CRC centres (State Examination Board, CET 2026 notification). The parent's job at this stage is to check that the mobile number on it is right, because the Director of Schools uses the number on the CET form for every later message about admission and the scholarship.

Once the child is on the merit list, the parent takes over on the CET portal:

1. Register with the child's 18-digit CTS UID from the Child Tracking System (Commissionerate registration instructions).
2. Confirm the details, choose the category and sub-category and upload their certificates, answer the parent-status, special-needs and Class 1 to 5 schooling questions, then verify the parent's mobile by OTP and set a password. The registration guide warns that nothing can be corrected after submission (CET 2025-26 registration guide).
3. Wait for an approver to clear the form if the child studied in a private school; government and aided pupils go straight to choice filling (CET 2026-27 choice-filling guide).
4. Rank the schools and schemes on offer, submit, and download the PDF of the choices. Only the last submitted list counts when merit is declared (CET 2026-27 choice-filling guide).
5. Download the allotment letter from the CET portal login, take Class 6 admission, and upload the school's certificate (gssyguj.in).

Tracking the Application and the Payment

Merit lists appear as PDFs on gssyguj.in, each child listed by CTS ID with category and marks (Gyan Setu final merit list), and allotment letters are downloaded after logging in to the CET portal with the CTS ID and the password set at registration; a "Reset Password" option is there for a forgotten one (CET 2026-27 choice-filling guide). The instructions published on gssyguj.in describe no separate payment-status screen. Money goes by DBT to the student's or parent's account, so a missing instalment is checked first with the school, which enters the attendance it depends on, and then with the district helpdesk.

How winners are picked

Selection process

Selection rests on two things: the child's CET merit rank and the family's own ranking of choices. The paper is multiple-choice, in Gujarati or English, set on the Class 5 syllabus: mathematics, Gujarati, English, Hindi and environment, plus reasoning and general knowledge (State Examination Board, CET 2026 notification).

The CET 2026 result shows how the list is cut. Of the 589,640 who appeared, 297,928 were boys and 291,712 girls, marks were reported in bands up to 120, and the Board said the first provisional merit list would take children scoring more than 50 marks, and more than 45 for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe children (State Examination Board, CET 2026-27 result notice). The same notice warns that a name on that provisional list is no guarantee of the benefit; the final merit list comes later, from the office running each scheme.

The Board sends the above-cut-off list to the Director of Schools; the District Primary Education Officer verifies documents for government-school pupils and the District Education Officer for aided-school pupils (Education Department resolution, 7 June 2023). Allotment then runs in rounds, matching merit rank against each child's ranked choices across all the CET-based schemes (gssyguj.in notices).

Terms & conditions

The resolution puts admission squarely on the family. Getting a seat in the chosen school is the student's and parent's responsibility, and the District Education Officer, the District Primary Education Officer and the Director of Schools carry none (Education Department resolution, 7 June 2023). A later amending resolution widened the Class 6 to 8 option so that a child from a government or aided school can continue in its own school or move to another government or aided primary school, and opened Classes 9 to 12 to any government or aided secondary school (amending resolution).

Private schools join only through the Director's list. A self-financed school must meet four conditions, one of which looks at its Class 10 board results over recent years; the others require continuous teaching from Class 6 to 12, one trust running both the primary and secondary sections, and Classes 6 to 10 or 6 to 12 on one campus (Education Department resolution, 7 June 2023). The list is refreshed every year and published with each school's address, medium and regulated fee (Education Department resolution, 7 June 2023), and the 2025 empanelled list can be searched by board, school type and district (Gyan Setu school list).

On the exam side, the CET form must be filled in English, and the Board will not later correct a name, surname, date of birth or caste entered on it (State Examination Board, CET 2026 notification).
