NAMO E-Tablet Scheme(NETS)

No annual application window is published for the scheme, and no closing date exists in its record. What the state has published are administrative dates, and they are the most honest guide to how active the scheme is.

Nothing has ever gone out as a dated statewide notice a student could watch for. Distribution reached students through their own colleges, which is why the admission desk, and not a portal calendar, is the only place to ask whether a round is on.

Three tests, and all three are about the year you are in. The Knowledge Consortium page requires that the student has passed the 12th examination from a recognised institution and board in Gujarat, that he or she is in the first year of college, and it counts students who have taken up polytechnic alongside degree entrants.

Most people who go searching for this tablet are disqualified by that middle test rather than by the board one. First year is a window, not a standing entitlement: a student who missed the distribution in first year does not become eligible in second year, and a Gujarat student who cleared class 12 outside the state board system falls outside the test entirely.

Two published descriptions disagree on whether poverty is part of the test, and it is worth knowing which one your college will act on. The Education Department's page sets no income ceiling and no marks bar. The myScheme record on this page asks for a below poverty line certificate among the documents and, in its own question on who may apply, attaches a family income limit that no Gujarat government page among the scheme's references states. Treat that ceiling as unverified, and let the college holding the deposit tell you which list it is actually collecting.

No exclusion list is published for the tablet. The year-of-study and board tests do that work instead: being past the first year of college, or holding a class 12 pass from outside Gujarat's recognised boards, is what puts a student outside this scheme.

Nothing renews. A student receives one device once, against one deposit, and no second-year claim, annual re-application or replacement clause appears anywhere in the scheme's published material. The two reimbursements described below are claimed once as well, against that same single deposit.

The benefit is hardware, at a price. The Education Department's tablet page told students to deposit Rs 1000 at the institute or college where they had taken admission, named the brand as Acer or Lenovo, and published the specification in full. That page is no longer served on the live portal, so what follows is the Internet Archive's snapshot of the government page as it stood while it was up.

Set that against the calendar before you judge the offer. Android 7.0 Nougat on a 7 inch screen was an ordinary specification when the department wrote it down and is well behind an entry-level phone now, which is a fair reason to treat this device as a supplement to whatever a student already owns rather than a substitute for it.

For two categories of student the token amount comes back. The Director of Scheduled Caste Welfare runs BCK-353, under which a Scheduled Caste student who has received a tablet on the Rs 1000 token fee from the Education Department is paid Rs 1000 in assistance, with no income limit, on the government resolution dated 16-01-2019. The Tribal Development Department runs the equivalent reimbursement for Scheduled Tribe students entering the first year of a graduate course. For those students the net cost of the device falls to nothing.

There is no departmental application form for the tablet, so the document list published for it is collected by the college rather than filed with a government office. The two papers that actually decide the claim are the ones the eligibility test turns on: the class 12 pass from a Gujarat board, and the letter confirming admission to the first year of a degree or polytechnic course.

The caste certificate and the bank account details sit on the other side of the transaction. They belong to the reimbursement claim, which a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe student files online in their own name after the deposit has been paid, and not to the tablet handover itself.

There is no application the student sends to a government office. The department's instruction was to deposit the token amount at the institute or college where admission was taken, which makes the college the point of entry, the collector of the deposit and the issuer of the receipt. The Digital Gujarat portal still reflects that split: its login menu keeps School / Institution Login separate from Citizen Login, and institutions submit student data through the former.

So the practical sequence is: confirm the first-year admission, ask the college's admission or scholarship desk whether it is taking tablet entries at all, pay the token amount only against a receipt, and keep that receipt.

Checking Where The Application Stands

Gujarat runs no public tracker for the tablet itself. The college's receipt and its own list are the record, and the admission office is where a delayed handover has to be chased.

The reimbursement is different, because it is a citizen application rather than a college one. A Scheduled Caste student claims the token amount back online through the Digital Gujarat portal, with the District Deputy Director of Scheduled Caste Welfare as the implementing office, so that claim is followed under Citizen Login on the portal exactly as a scholarship application is.

No merit ranking, interview or scoring rule is published for the tablet, which sits oddly against the scheme page's stated aim of helping meritorious students: eligibility is the whole test, and no marks threshold appears anywhere inside it. What decides who actually receives a device is supply against the statewide target, and how many units reach one college in one year, rather than any committee sitting on applications.

The scheme publishes no terms document of its own. Two conditions follow from what is published: the benefit is in kind, so there is no cash alternative to the device, and the token amount goes to the institution rather than to a government treasury, with no refund clause published anywhere for a deposit that buys nothing.

That gap has already been tested. The Indian Express reported in June 2023 that students who had paid the deposit at the start of earlier academic sessions were finishing their degree and diploma courses without ever receiving a tablet, had asked the Chief Minister's Office for their money back, and that the Education Department was by then studying a laptop scheme to replace the tablet one. That is the practical reason the receipt matters more here than the paperwork does.

The Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat holds the scheme page for the Education Department and lists its office at Pragna Puram Campus, opposite PRL, Navrangpura, Ahmedabad 380015, reachable on 079 2630 2067. The Directorate of Technical Education, named as the implementing agency, publishes dire-dte@gujarat.gov.in on its own site.

A tablet helpline on 079-26566000, staffed 11 am to 5 pm, was published on the department's tablet page while it was live. That page has since gone from the portal, so treat the number as unconfirmed and start with the college that took your admission.
