Overview

About MAYG

The Mukhyamantri Apprenticeship Yojana (MAY) is a Gujarat state scheme that supports apprenticeship training for young people. It is run by the Labour and Employment Department of Gujarat and sits alongside the national apprenticeship programmes, NAPS and NATS, adding state support on top of what those schemes provide.

The aim is to build skill development through on-the-job and off-the-job training. Placements span designated and optional trades across engineering and non-engineering fields, so the scheme reaches a wide set of vocations rather than a single sector.

The support works on two sides. Apprentices draw a monthly stipend set by their category and qualification, ranging from ₹1,500 to ₹3,000, while employers who take on apprentices receive financial incentives over and above the benefits available under NAPS and NATS. An applicant chooses a trade and an employer, signs a training contract, and draws the stipend over the placement, which can run from six months up to about three years depending on the trade.

It is meant for young residents of Gujarat who take up apprenticeships, from school-level trade apprentices through to technician, diploma and graduate apprentices. The exact age, education and trade conditions, and the stipend that applies to each category, are set out in the scheme's eligibility rules.
