Mamasaheb Phadke Management of Govt Adarsh Residential Schools (SC) Scheme(MPMGARSSC)
Overview
About MPMGARSSC
The Mamasaheb Phadke scheme runs government-managed model residential schools, known as Ideal Residential Schools, for scheduled caste students studying in standards 9 to 12. It is administered by the Director, Scheduled Caste Welfare, under Gujarat's Social Justice and Empowerment Department, and carries the departmental code BCK-28.
Support is given in kind rather than as a cash transfer. Selected students live at the school and receive free lodging, boarding and education, so that the cost of secondary and higher secondary schooling does not force an able student to drop out. The residential schools are run directly by the department across Gujarat.
The scheme is named after Vitthal Laxman Phadke, remembered as Mamasaheb Phadke, a Gandhian social worker who was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1969. Places are limited and selection is on merit for scheduled caste students entering standard 9; the department sets the qualifying marks and the other conditions of admission, which are published alongside the scheme.
