About MKKU
The Mahila Kamgar Kaushal Unnayan Evan Theka Shramik, Hamaal Tatha Ghareloo Mahila Kamgaar Parivar Sashaktikaran Yojana is a welfare scheme of the Labour Department, Government of Chhattisgarh, introduced in 2015. It is run through the Chhattisgarh Asangathit Karmakar Rajya Samajik Suraksha Mandal, the state's social security board for unorganised workers, which was constituted under the Unorganised Workers' Social Security Act, 2008.
The scheme sets out to raise the skills of women who work in the unorganised sector and to strengthen their families. It pairs skill development training in identified trades with family-empowerment activities such as health education, financial literacy and entrepreneurship training. The support is given in kind, through training, rather than as a cash transfer.
It is meant for women unorganised workers who are on the board's rolls: contract (theka) workers, hamals who load and carry goods, and women in domestic (gharelu) work. Registration with the Chhattisgarh Asangathit Karmakar Rajya Samajik Suraksha Mandal is the route to eligibility, so a worker's registered status with the board decides who can apply.
