Overview

About KVY

Kaushal Vikas Yojana, also known as the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission (UPSDM), is the Government of Uttar Pradesh's programme for employment-oriented, placement-linked vocational training. It was set up on 13 September 2013 as a society registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.

The mission's role is to bring the state's various skilling efforts under one framework and run short-term, trade-based courses through empanelled government and private training partners. Training follows the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF), and registration for eligible candidates is free. Because the scheme is placement-linked, its stated aim is to place at least 70% of trainees in wage employment or self-employment after they complete a course.

The programme is aimed at young people in the 14 to 35 age group across Uttar Pradesh, covering trades such as computer training, driving, welding, plumbing and fashion designing. UPSDM sets participation targets for women, minorities and persons with disabilities among those trained. Exact eligibility for any given course and batch depends on the trade and the training partner.
