Kasturba Gandhi Special Term Deposit Receipt Scheme(KGSTDRS)
Overview
About KGSTDRS
The Kasturba Gandhi Special Term Deposit Receipt Scheme is a Rajasthan incentive for girls who finish Class 8 at a Kasturba Gandhi residential school and stay in education. It is run by the state's Education (Elementary and Secondary) Department, and the award is not cash in hand: it is placed as a fixed deposit held in the girl's name, a Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR) she collects later.
The deposit is built in two stages: ₹2,000 when she moves into Class 11 and ₹4,000 when she enters her first year of college. It stays locked and matures only when she completes graduation, so the money arrives as a single sum at the end rather than being drawn down as she passes each stage.
Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas are residential schools the Government of India set up in 2004 for girls from Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Class and minority communities, and from families below the poverty line, in educationally backward areas. In Rajasthan, the award reaches their students who clear Class 10 and Class 12 from a government school with at least 50% marks and go on to graduation, subject to the enrolment conditions the department sets.
