About HEFAS-PBAOCWWB
The Higher Educational Finance Assistance Scheme is run by the Puducherry Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (PBAOCWWB), which sits under the Labour Department of the Union Territory of Puducherry. It offers cash support towards the higher education of the children of registered construction workers.
The assistance is meant for wards who secure admission to higher-education courses through CENTAC, the Centralised Admission Committee in Puducherry. Payment is made by Direct Benefit Transfer into the student's bank account, so the money reaches the ward directly.
To qualify, a student's parent must be a construction worker enrolled with the board, and the student must have taken admission through the CENTAC route. That registration is what links the family to this scheme and to the board's other welfare measures, which range from medical and maternity assistance to marriage and funeral support.
