Gujarat Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Standard 1st to 10th(PREMSSSGUJ)

Neither the scheme record nor the department's page carries an opening or closing date, and no permanent annual window exists for it in writing. Gujarat announces its scholarship windows scheme by scheme on the state scholarship portal's notice board, which is where a family has to watch. As of early September 2026 the notices posted there run for the post-matric schemes, Scheduled Tribe post-matric and allied schemes from 01/09/2026 to 30/11/2026 and Scheduled Caste and OBC post-matric from 06/07/2026 to 30/09/2026, with nothing posted for a pre-matric Standard 1 to 10 window (Gujarat State Scholarship Portal). The pattern to expect is an announcement tied to the academic year, carried on that board and passed down through schools, rather than a date fixed in the scheme document.

Being a Scheduled Tribe child at a Gujarat school is the entry condition, and the department adds one test the scheme record does not spell out: the pupil must have cleared the previous standard in the annual examination (Tribal Development Department). That is a pass test, not a merit test. Nothing in the department's criteria ranks children by marks or reserves the money for a top slice.

Income enters only at the top of the range, and it enters as a fork rather than a bar. The department's state rate card marks its Standard 9 to 10 row for families with more than Rs 2.50 lakh (state scheme page), while the centrally sponsored pre-matric scholarship for those same two classes is limited to families at or below that figure (centrally sponsored scheme page). For a Class 9 or Class 10 pupil, then, household income decides which of the two schemes pays, not whether anything is paid at all. Below Class 9 the question does not arise.

Nobody has written down who is barred from this award: neither myScheme nor the Tribal Development Department names a single disqualifying condition. What works like one in practice is the class-and-income fork above, because a Class 9 or Class 10 Scheduled Tribe pupil from a household under the central ceiling belongs on the centrally sponsored award, which pays more.

There is no renewal instrument to file. The entitlement is re-earned rather than carried, because the department's condition is that the pupil cleared the previous standard, so each year's award rests on the year just finished (Tribal Development Department). A child who repeats a standard has not met the stated condition for the following year. The department publishes no separate renewal form, no renewal window and no continuation certificate for this scheme.

The department's own scheme page still carries an older rate card, printed by standard and by sex, with a separate and higher set of rates for the Primitive Tribe Group.

Two things follow from reading that card against the current scheme record. The department's "Primitive Tribe Group" is the same population the record calls extremely backward students, so the higher slab is a particularly vulnerable tribal group entitlement rather than a merit top-up. And the annual amounts listed for the scheme today sit above this card, because they are the revised rates, which take effect from a new academic session rather than mid-year (myScheme record). If a school or a district office quotes the lower figure, it is quoting the page the department has not yet refreshed.

Either way this is a small annual sum against notebooks, travel and the rest of a school year, not a fee waiver. Uniform is funded on its own line: an Assistance for Uniform scheme sits beside this one in the same special-assistance block of the department's menu (Tribal Development Department).

The proofs the scheme asks for are identity, tribe, school and bank, and the record sets them out. What the list does not say is which of them decides whether the money reaches the child, and it is the bank line rather than any of the certificates.

An application can clear every other check and still pay nothing if the account behind it is the wrong one. Payment under the portal's schemes runs to the account seeded to the pupil's Aadhaar, and that account also has to be enabled for direct benefit transfer and neither closed nor dormant. Which account is mapped today is something a family can look up itself, through the Bharat Aadhaar Seeding Enabler on the NPCI site, and reseed there when the mapping still points at an account nobody uses (Directorate of Tribal Development, online application guidance). A pre-matric applicant is given no further checklist by the Tribal Development Department, so the record's five entries are the whole of what a family has to gather.

The scheme record gives the mode as online and points at the Digital Gujarat portal, whose Scholarship Services link opens the Gujarat State Scholarship Portal that the state runs for exactly this purpose.

The Tribal Development Department's published portal instructions for its Scheduled Tribe scholarships describe the path in full: open the portal, use Citizen Login, register as a new citizen with a mobile number and email address if this is a first application, then use Request a New Service and pick the year. Live schemes appear in green and closed ones in red, and the form runs in five stages, registration detail, bank details, academic details, disability detail and attachments, before the mobile number is verified and the application finally submitted. One Aadhaar number gets one application (Directorate of Tribal Development, online application guidance). That document was written for the post-matric schemes, and the department has published no equivalent citizen manual for the pre-matric award, so treat it as how the portal works rather than as this scheme's own rulebook.

Who actually operates that login is the question to settle before anyone registers. For the Scheduled Caste pre-matric scholarship covering Standards IX and X, the Social Justice and Empowerment Department states flatly that the online work has to be done through school principals on the same Digital Gujarat portal (Director, Scheduled Caste Welfare). The Tribal Development Department has not published a matching instruction for this scheme. Ask the class teacher or head before assuming a parent account is the right route, particularly for a primary-class child who has no bank account of their own yet.

Tracking the Application and the Payment

The same portal is where the application's fate shows. After logging in, Scholarship Services leads to Scholarship Service Requests, where selecting a year and pressing Show lists the applications filed in that year, including earlier ones (Directorate of Tribal Development). A sanctioned application that has not paid out is usually a bank-mapping problem rather than a rejection, and the portal's helpline, 18002335500, is the number the state prints for scholarship queries (Gujarat State Scholarship Portal).

No rank list, no interview, no cut-off. The department's stated criterion is that the pupil belongs to a Scheduled Tribe and has cleared the previous standard, and it publishes no further selection rule. The figure of 12,22,391 beneficiaries in 2019-20 is the practical evidence that this is an entitlement paid to everyone who qualifies and files, not a competition among applicants (Tribal Development Department).

The award is annual and paid by direct benefit transfer, and the department's portal rules allow one application per Aadhaar number, so a second attempt on the same number will not create a second claim. Rates change by government decision rather than on application: the scheme sits on a state budget line, and the revised amounts now published for it take effect from a new academic session (myScheme record). Nothing in the department's material makes the money conditional on attendance thresholds or on the type of school attended.
