Overview

About GENNPPY

The Gunavatta Evam Navaachar Nishulk Paathy Pustak Yojana is an Uttarakhand government scheme that gives free textbooks to school children in Classes 1 to 8. It is run by the state's Department of Education and the books reach students through the Directorate of Primary and Secondary Education, distributed to schools each academic year.

The benefit is in kind, a set of prescribed textbooks rather than a cash transfer. It covers children studying in government schools, government-aided schools, and recognised madrasas that follow the Uttarakhand state curriculum. There is no separate application or selection step: an eligible student receives the books through the school they attend.

The aim is to keep the cost of basic study material off families at the primary and upper-primary stage. Textbooks are delivered to schools ahead of the session start, so that a child's books are in hand when the academic year begins.
