About GMWESMA-LSG
The Department of Sainik Welfare, Government of Puducherry, runs this scheme as a one-time lump sum cash grant for the academically meritorious wards of ex-servicemen. It recognises the sons and daughters of ex-servicemen for their performance in academics.
The department is the union territory's nodal agency for the resettlement, rehabilitation and welfare of ex-servicemen and their families. The office was first constituted in 1965 as the Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen Board, renamed the Rajya Sainik Board in 1976, and given its present name, the Department of Sainik Welfare, in 1995.
As a union territory scheme, it is confined to Puducherry and to the ex-servicemen families the department serves. The benefit is paid as a single lump sum rather than a recurring stipend, so it works as a one-time reward for a ward's academic result rather than ongoing support through a course.

| The applicant should be a Ward of an ESM / Ward of the Widow of an ESM. | |
| The applicant should have secured 1st/2nd/3rd Rank in Class 10th/12th in a Government-recognized Institution, or should have secured gold medal in Graduation/Postgraduation in a Government-recognized University. |
