Overview

About GPCS

The General Poor Class Scholarship supports students in Classes 6 to 8 at government schools in Madhya Pradesh, and is run by the state's School Education Department. Applicants must be permanent residents of the state, and each student's details are recorded on the Shiksha Portal, the department's education portal.

The scheme is aimed at students from Below Poverty Line families whose total household income is under ₹1,00,000 a year. The benefit is a cash scholarship paid directly into the student's bank account, with the department setting ₹300 a year for girls and ₹200 a year for boys.

Only children enrolled in government schools qualify; students at private schools are not covered, and a student needs to have passed the previous class. To claim, a student approaches the head of their government school, and a teacher enters the student's profile on the Shiksha Portal from the records the student provides.
