Overview

About GPMSUP

The General Pre Matric Scholarship is a state scheme run by the Social Welfare Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh, for General category students in Classes 9 and 10. It is one half of the state's pre-matric scholarship structure, which covers secondary-school pupils; a separate post-matric track handles higher levels.

The department pays the scholarship as a cash benefit to the student. The stated aim is to support secondary education among children in Uttar Pradesh, help them stay in school through matriculation, and reduce dropout at the Class 9 and 10 stage.

It is meant for students who are permanent residents of Uttar Pradesh, are enrolled in a recognised school, and belong to the General category. Eligibility also turns on a family income ceiling and the applicant having passed the previous class; the exact income limit and scholarship amount are set by the department. Applications are made online through the state scholarship portal within the annual window the department announces.
