Overview

About FS

Free Studentship is a state scholarship run by the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, part of the Government of Meghalaya's Education Department. It supports students from the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Classes communities of the state who are pursuing post-matriculation studies, from higher secondary through the degree level, at a recognised institution.

The benefit is financial. The scheme meets a student's tuition and other prescribed fees at rates fixed for each class and stream, so that the cost of fees does not stand in the way of continuing a course.

To qualify, an applicant must be a citizen of India, a permanent resident of Meghalaya, and enrolled in a regular course at a recognised institution. The scheme is meant for students who are not already drawing another government scholarship. Applications are made offline through the college or institution, and a student reapplies each year to continue the support.
