Overview

About IUSSSNER

Ishan Uday is a special scholarship scheme for the North Eastern Region, administered by the University Grants Commission under the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education. It was introduced for the 2014-15 academic year to widen access to higher education for students across the region.

The scheme's stated purpose is to promote higher education in the North Eastern Region by providing financial assistance to students from the region. It is aimed at raising the region's gross enrolment ratio in higher education and at supporting students from economically weaker sections.

The benefit is a cash scholarship, paid to students who have passed Class 12 from a school in the region and taken admission to the first year of a recognised undergraduate degree, whether general, technical, or professional. Around 10,000 fresh scholarships are offered each year, allocated across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. It is meant for students from lower-income families, subject to a family-income ceiling set by the scheme.
