Overview

About FAOSAMEU

Financial Assistance to OBC Students Appearing in the Mains Examination of UPSC is a state welfare scheme run by the Directorate of Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes, Government of Assam. It supports Other Backward Class candidates from the state who have qualified the UPSC preliminary examination and are preparing to sit the Civil Services (Main) examination.

The grant is worth up to ₹50,000 per beneficiary, paid in cash and subject to the budget provision for the year. To qualify, an applicant must belong to an OBC community of Assam, must have qualified the UPSC preliminary examination in the relevant cycle, and must have parental or guardian annual income of not more than ₹5,00,000.

Applications are filed online through the national myScheme portal, and a DigiLocker account is needed to register. The Directorate asks for an OBC caste certificate, a parental income certificate issued by the Circle Officer, the preliminary examination admit card and proof of having qualified it, among other documents. Assistance is not automatic: it is extended on the basis of the applicant meeting the eligibility criteria and the documents submitted, and it remains tied to the funds allocated for the scheme in a given year.
