Financial Assistance for Education of Children of Beneficiary(FAECB)
Overview
About FAECB
The Financial Assistance for Education of Children of Beneficiary scheme is run by the Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, which sits under the Labour and Employment Department, Government of Manipur. The Board notified it in September 2023 as a relief measure for families displaced by the violence that followed the Tribal Solidarity March of 3 May 2023. It provides one-time cash help towards the education of children of registered construction workers whose families are staying in relief camps after that violence.
Eligibility is tied to that context. The worker must be registered with the Board and hold a valid labour card, must be residing in a relief camp because of the violence, and the family must be one affected by the events of 3 May 2023. The worker also needs at least 90 days of construction work in the year, and the child must be enrolled in a qualifying course. The amount depends on the level of study, as set out in the Board's notification, from ₹5,000 for higher secondary up to ₹37,500 for an engineering or medical degree, and is paid by Direct Benefit Transfer to the beneficiary's bank account. Applications are made offline, through the Relief Camp Nodal Officer or a Labour Board Inspector, on the form annexed to the Board's 4 September 2023 notification.
