Establishment and Operation of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Laboratories(EOSTEML)
Overview
About EOSTEML
The Establishment and Operation of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Laboratories is a state scheme in Uttarakhand that sets up and runs STEM laboratories inside schools. It is aimed at students of classes 6 to 12, giving them equipped spaces for hands-on work in science, technology, engineering and mathematics rather than a cash payment. The benefit is delivered in kind, through the laboratory, its equipment and the teaching that goes with it.
The scheme sits with the Government of Uttarakhand's Department of Information and Science Technology and is run through the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST), an autonomous body of the state government. UCOST's school STEM programme, run as STEM Jigyasha Kaksh, brings tools such as artificial intelligence, robotics, drones and 3D printing into the classroom, with trained educators guiding students through the year. UCOST is rolling these labs out to government schools across the districts of Uttarakhand, reaching into the remote hill areas where such equipment is hardest to come by.
The purpose is to give school students direct experience of scientific and technical work and a firmer grip on the concepts they study. If you are a student in a participating Uttarakhand school in classes 6 to 12, the scheme reaches you through the school; there is no cash grant to apply for.
