About CTS-MAHARASHTRA
The Craftsman Training Scheme is a national vocational training programme that the Government of India started in 1950 to keep up a steady supply of skilled workers across industrial trades. Nationally it runs under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, through the Directorate General of Training. State governments have run the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) that deliver it since 1956, and in Maharashtra the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training (DVET), under the state's Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department, handles the scheme.
Training is delivered through government and private ITIs, with course work weighted towards practical instruction over theory. A trainee who completes an NCVT-designated trade and passes the examinations receives the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) certificate, issued by the Directorate General of Training in New Delhi. The stated purpose is to give educated youth employable skills and to reduce unemployment by preparing them for industrial work.
Admission is open to a wide pool: a candidate seeking a place at an ITI in Maharashtra must have completed 14 years of age, and no upper age limit applies. Places and trades are allotted through the state's counselling and admission process, which DVET administers each academic year.

Who can apply
Eligibility criteria
| The applicant should be a resident of Maharashtra state. | |
| The applicant should belong to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Freed Castes and Nomadic Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Special Backward Classes, Minority Communities and Open Category economically backward | |
| The annual income of parents should not exceed ₹8,00,000/-. | |
| Only two siblings within a family are eligible for this benefit. | |
| The trainee should maintain an average of 80% attendance. | |
| The trainee should be passing the first year to enroll in a 2-year trade. | |
| SC trainees with an annual income of less than ₹2,50,000/- are also eligible for the Post Matric Scholarship. | |
| Trainees suspended or found non-eligible for the All India Trade Test (AITT) will not qualify. | |
| Trainees who have left the GITI are not eligible from their date of departure. | |
| Trainees in PITI are ineligible for this scheme. |
