Overview

About CSC

Chhatrawas (Scheduled Caste) is a welfare scheme of the Government of Madhya Pradesh, run by its Tribal Welfare and Scheduled Caste (SC) Department. It provides free residential places in the department's Scheduled Caste hostels for boys and girls who are studying in schools and colleges. The scheme was launched in 1966-67.

Many Scheduled Caste students live too far from a suitable school or college, and the cost of staying near one can cut their studies short. A place in a departmental hostel eases that barrier, so the student can live close to the institution and keep studying. The support is a residential place rather than a cash transfer.

It is a state programme for Scheduled Caste students of Madhya Pradesh who are enrolled in a recognised institution. Welfare of Scheduled Caste students across India falls under the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, while this hostel scheme is administered by the Madhya Pradesh department at the state level.
