Overview

About AABYM

The Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana in Maharashtra is a government insurance scheme for landless labourers in rural areas. In the state it is run by the Social Justice and Special Assistance Department, Government of Maharashtra. It follows the national Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana, a centrally administered social security scheme.

The scheme combines insurance cover with an education benefit. On the death of the insured member the nominee receives a sum, and the cover also applies to accidental death and permanent disability. Alongside this, a monthly scholarship supports the member's children who are studying in classes 9 to 12, for up to two children in a family.

It is meant for landless labourers aged 18 to 59 who live in rural areas, whose household owns no agricultural land, and who are not already covered by a similar insurance scheme. The annual premium is shared between the central and state governments, so eligible members do not pay it themselves. Applications are made through the Collector office, Tahsildar or Talathi.
