About VDY
Vahli Dikri Yojana, Gujarati for 'beloved daughter', is a girl-child welfare scheme run by the Department of Women and Child Development, Government of Gujarat. The state launched it on 2 August 2019, and daughters born on or after that date are the intended beneficiaries.
The scheme is meant to keep girls in school. It works to reduce dropout among girl students, encourage them to finish secondary and higher secondary education and move on to further study, and address child marriage and the skewed sex ratio across rural and urban Gujarat.
The benefit is cash. Assistance reaches an eligible girl in stages tied to her schooling, with the largest instalment released when she turns 18 to support higher education, vocational training or marriage. Support is directed at lower-income Gujarati families and is capped at two daughters per family.

Award & benefits
- Financial Assistance at Different Stages: ₹4,000/- at the time of admission in 1st standard.
- ₹6,000/- at the time of admission in 9th standard.
- ₹1,00,000/- at the age of 18 years for higher education or marriage.
