About VSYG
Vidhya Sadhana Yojana is a state welfare scheme run by the Tribal Development Department, Government of Gujarat. It gives eligible girl students a free bicycle, an in-kind benefit rather than a cash grant, and sits among the department's education support programmes for scheduled tribe students.
The scheme is aimed at scheduled tribe girls in Gujarat who continue their schooling after class 8. A secondary school is often further from home than the primary school a girl has attended, and that distance is a common reason tribal girls stop studying. A bicycle is meant to close that gap, so a student can reach a more distant school on her own and stay enrolled. The Tribal Development Department administers the scheme and defines the eligibility conditions that decide who qualifies.
