Uniform Assistance for Socially and Educationally Backward Class Students Studying Standard 1st to 8th is Gujarat's yearly grant for school clothes: Rs 900 for three sets of uniform, paid for each SEBC child in a government or grant-in-aid primary school, with no family income test. Parents do not fill a form for it. The school's principal files the claim on Digital Gujarat, and the money is credited to the child's own bank or post office account.

The Director, Developing Castes Welfare, pays it, and the Directorate's accounts carry it in the OBC-1 education block labelled "Scholarship, Uniform, Cycle etc." (Expenditure report, March 2026). The Social Justice and Empowerment Department's notification under the Aadhaar Act, published in the Gujarat Government Gazette on 3 June 2024, describes the benefit as "Rs.900/- per annum as uniform assistance" and names the Director of Developing Caste Welfare as the implementing agency (Gujarat Government Gazette, Extraordinary No. 49, Part IV-A). The same notification covers Economically Backward Class, minority and nomadic and de-notified tribe pupils, and Gujarat's scheme directory lists each of those groups as a separate uniform entry beside the SEBC one (Mari Yojana, scheme A to Z).

Important dates

No official page publishes an application window or a last date, because the family never applies directly; the date that matters is when the school sends its list, and the principal is the person to ask. The fixed dates on record are 6 April 2022, the date of the resolution that set the current rate (Director, Developing Castes Welfare, proactive disclosure), and 3 June 2024, when the Aadhaar notification appeared in the Gazette (Gujarat Government Gazette, Extraordinary No. 49, Part IV-A).

The official tests are short, but three of them are easy to misread:

• The category is SEBC, not minority. The myScheme listing says the child "must belong to the Socially and Educationally Backward Class under the minority category". Gujarat's own directory keeps the SEBC uniform grant as its own entry, with SEBC as its only category test, and lists a separate entry for Other Backward Class (minority) pupils (Mari Yojana, scheme A to Z). An SEBC certificate is what the school needs; minority status is not a condition of this line.
• There is no income ceiling. The Directorate's scheme page states "There is no any income limit" (Director, Developing Castes Welfare, scheme page), and Mari Yojana records no individual or family income limit for the entry. The Directorate's list of the orders behind each scheme agrees: the November 2022 income-limit order is filed against its pre-matric scholarship and most of its other education schemes, but not against uniform assistance (Director, Developing Castes Welfare, proactive disclosure).
• Only government and grant-in-aid schools count. The Directorate's 2026 scheme book limits the grant to children in government and grant-in-aid schools in Standards 1 to 8, and routes the application through the school's principal (Director, Developing Castes Welfare, OBC scheme book 2026).

Exclusions

A child in a private unaided school falls outside the grant, because Mari Yojana's entry names only government and grant-in-aid primary schools, and so does a child who has moved up to Standard 9 (Mari Yojana, scheme A to Z). A child whose bank or post office account fails the portal's verification is not paid until the principal corrects the account and sends it for verification again (Digital Gujarat citizen user manual).

A missing Aadhaar number is not an exclusion. The 2024 notification says no child shall be denied the benefit for failing Aadhaar authentication or for not yet having an Aadhaar number, and lets identity be proved with other documents instead (Gujarat Government Gazette, Extraordinary No. 49, Part IV-A).

Renewal conditions

There is no renewal form. The notification describes the benefit as a per annum payment, and because the school files the claim, a child stays in the grant for each year spent in Standards 1 to 8 at an eligible school. The family's part each year is to keep the SEBC certificate and the account details current with the school.

The rate in force is Rs 900 a year for three pairs of uniform. Gujarat's scheme directory states it for this grant in Gujarati, "ધો.૧થી ૮ના સામાજિક અને શૈક્ષણિક રીતે પછાત વર્ગના વિદ્યાર્થીઓને ત્રણ જોડ ગણવેશ માટેની રૂ. ૯૦૦/- ગણવેશ સહાય", that is, nine hundred rupees of uniform assistance for three pairs, for SEBC pupils of Standards 1 to 8 (Mari Yojana, scheme A to Z). The Gazette notification of 3 June 2024 gives the same amount as "Rs.900/- per annum", though it does not name the standards (Gujarat Government Gazette, Extraordinary No. 49, Part IV-A).

The rate dates from resolution SSP/122021/513385/N.Ba.44/A.1 of 6 April 2022, one of the orders the Directorate files against this grant (Director, Developing Castes Welfare, proactive disclosure). That resolution, which Mari Yojana links from the grant's entry, raised the three-pair grant for SEBC pupils in Standards 1 to 8 and applied the higher rate from the new academic session.

Both language versions of the Directorate's own scheme page predate it, and both still carry a spending table for 2018-19. The English page is titled "Uniform Assistance of two Pairs to the Children studying in Std. I to VIII" and quotes "Rs. 300/- for two pairs of uniforms (per year)" (Director, Developing Castes Welfare, scheme page). The Gujarati page has moved to three pairs but stops at "ત્રણ જોડ ગણવેશ માટે રૂ. ૬૦૦/- સહાય (વાર્ષિક)", six hundred rupees a year (Director, Developing Castes Welfare, scheme page in Gujarati), the rate the 2022 resolution replaced. Neither is a second current rate; both are old rates left online.

The money travels by Direct Benefit Transfer. In the Digital Gujarat workflow for pre-matric schemes, the treasury pays the pupil straight into a bank or post office account, and a pupil whose account is dormant is paid by draft instead (Digital Gujarat citizen user manual).

The Directorate's own records show how many SEBC children the grant has reached in the years it has published:

In the two recent years, the amount spent divided by the children reached comes to roughly the Rs 900 a year the notification states (Gujarat Government Gazette, Extraordinary No. 49, Part IV-A), which is the reason to read the BCK-85 line, labelled books and clothes, as this grant. For 2025-26 the report set the line's target at 20,00,000 SEBC children (Expenditure report, March 2026).

• Financial Assistance: ₹900/- is provided to each eligible student for the purchase of three pairs of school uniforms.

What to prepare

Documents required

Beyond the general document list on myScheme, the 2024 notification spells out how the child's identity is established:

• The child's Aadhaar number, or Aadhaar authentication.
• Where the child has no Aadhaar yet: the Aadhaar enrolment slip for a child enrolled after the age of five, plus a birth certificate or a school identity card signed by the principal that carries the parents' names.
• Proof of the child's relationship with the parent or guardian: a birth certificate, ration card, ECHS, ESIC or CGHS card, pension card, army canteen card or any government family entitlement card (Gujarat Government Gazette, Extraordinary No. 49, Part IV-A).

The account matters as much as the papers. The portal's workflow flags an account whose holder name does not match the pupil's record, and that mismatch needs consent before the proposal moves (Digital Gujarat citizen user manual).

Step by step

How to apply

The family's route is the school. The Directorate's 2026 scheme book gives the application mode as online on the Digital Gujarat portal through the school's principal, addressed to the District Deputy Director (Developing Castes) or the District Social Welfare Officer (Developing Castes) (Director, Developing Castes Welfare, OBC scheme book 2026).

The Digital Gujarat manual draws the pre-matric filing as a chain of steps (Digital Gujarat citizen user manual):

1. The principal logs in to Digital Gujarat and pulls the pupils' records (the manual says from SSA) or enters them by hand.
2. The pupils' bank accounts go for verification by a central team at Gandhinagar.
3. Verified accounts go into a proposal; a name mismatch needs consent, and an invalid account has to be corrected and verified again.
4. District officials check the pupils' details, approve or reject the proposal and raise the bill.
5. The treasury receives the bill in IFMS and pays the pupils.

On the state's scholarship portal, schools have their own School / Institution Login, separate from the citizen login that students use for post-matric forms (Gujarat State Scholarship Portal).

Where a Claim Can Stall

Because the principal files, the claim's status sits with the school rather than in a family login. When the money has not arrived, the steps above are the places to ask about, in order: whether the child's account cleared verification or was flagged for a name mismatch or as invalid, whether the district office approved the school's proposal, and whether the treasury has paid, which for a dormant account means a draft rather than a credit (Digital Gujarat citizen user manual). The district office that approves the proposal is listed, with its phone number, on the Directorate's contact page (Director, Developing Castes Welfare, contact page).

The grant is also a notified public service. The Social Justice and Empowerment Department lists "Uniform assistance for developing Caste Students Studying in std. 1 to 8" among its services under the Gujarat Right of Citizens to Public Services Act (Department wise list of notified services).

Selection process

There is no selection round. Every SEBC pupil at an eligible school whose school files the claim is entitled to the same grant, with no merit test, no income test and no published quota. The 2022 resolution, linked from Mari Yojana, ties the year's spending to the budget provision for it (Mari Yojana, scheme A to Z).

The conditions that reach families are few:

• Payment is by Direct Benefit Transfer only; the 2022 resolution requires the DBT method for the benefit (Mari Yojana, scheme A to Z).
• Identity is checked through Aadhaar or the listed alternatives, and every child paid on other documents is entered in a separate register that the department reviews and audits periodically (Gujarat Government Gazette, Extraordinary No. 49, Part IV-A).
• The rate can change only by a state government order, which the 2022 resolution requires for any change to the scheme's norms or amounts (Mari Yojana, scheme A to Z).
