About TCMITFP

The CM IT Fellowship Program is not a fee waiver, and reading it as one is the fastest way to waste an application. Chhattisgarh funds 100 of these places across four batches, 25 to a batch, and each pays Rs 50,000 a month for two years. What you get for that is an M.Tech in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at IIIT Naya Raipur plus a posting inside a state department for most of the course. What the state gets is a signed bond.

What Chhattisgarh is buying here is two years of a graduate's working time; the M.Tech is the vehicle it comes wrapped in. The Chhattisgarh Infotech Promotion Society (CHiPS) runs the programme with IIIT Naya Raipur and describes a five-year effort in four batches of 25 fellows each, a total of 100 Chhattisgarh students, with tuition sponsored by the state and a fellowship of Rs 50,000 a month.

The two years are split between classrooms and government offices, and the split shifts as you go. The state's own programme page sets out six months of academic session in semester one, then two months of teaching and four months of department engagement in semester two, six months of department engagement in semester three, and a final semester of five months in a department with one month of academic work.

Where you are sent is not your call. Fellows sit under the administrative control of CHiPS, which names the Chief Minister's Office, the Chief Secretary's Office, Revenue and Disaster Management, Finance, Planning and Statistics, Home, Transport, Energy, Forest, Skill Development, School Education, Urban Development, Commerce and Industries, Social Welfare and Health as probable placement departments.

Every date in this section belongs to a cycle that is over. Applications for the 2026 batch shut in July, the seats were filled in August, and neither IIIT Naya Raipur nor the state portal has posted anything for the batch after it. Read the table as a record of how one cycle ran, not as a window you can still walk through. It is also more useful than the brochure's tentative schedule, which had put the opening at 1st May and the deadline at 30th June before both moved.

What repeats is the rhythm, not the dates: an opening in late spring, a single-day skill test with the result out the same evening, and reporting finished before the 17th August commencement of classes the brochure pencilled in. The state's own About page is not the place to watch for the next opening: it still calls the 2025-26 batch underway and sends readers to the IIIT-NR website for the following year's applications, so the institute's admission page is the only one of the two that moves.

Who can apply

Eligibility criteria

Domicile is the filter that settles this one before any of the others are read. IIIT Naya Raipur states the programme is exclusively for Chhattisgarh-domiciled candidates who are Indian citizens, aged up to 30 years as of the application deadline, holding a graduate or postgraduate degree with GATE qualified in Computer Science or Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% or First Class, with 5% marks or 0.5 CPI relaxed for SC, ST and PwD candidates and age relaxation under Chhattisgarh reservation rules.

Qualifying is not the same as competing. GATE carries half the merit weight, so the score you walked out of that exam with is still working on your behalf a year later. In the 2026 first round of allotment the highest combined score was 63.800 and the last seat in that round went at 40.400. No cutoff is published in advance; that range is what one year's list happened to produce, and category rules move it.

Reservation is applied under the Chhattisgarh State Reservation Policy, and the allotment sheets show it working in both directions: category seats convert to open only when no eligible reserved candidate is available, and the notation on each row records the conversion.

Who cannot apply

Exclusions

myScheme publishes no exclusion list for this scheme, but the admission notice and the institute's own answers rule out several groups in practice. You cannot draw two fellowships at once: asked whether a CMIT fellow holding a valid GATE score may also take the AICTE postgraduate fellowship, IIIT Naya Raipur answers that a student cannot avail of two fellowships simultaneously. Applications sent offline or by email are not considered at all.

Two more exclusions bite after selection rather than before it. Vacant reserved seats are not offered to unreserved candidates, and a candidate who does not report physically for document verification inside the stated window has the provisional admission cancelled, with the seat pushed into the next allotment round.

Continuation

Renewal conditions

There is no renewal form and no yearly re-application. The fellowship is fixed at Rs 50,000 a month in both the first and second years, so continuation is simply a matter of staying in the programme.

What sits where a renewal condition normally would is the bond. Every admitted candidate produces a bond for serving the full term of the fellowship or paying in lieu, and a fellow who withdraws before completing the programme repays the fellowship money received plus the tuition fee of 2,00,000. Accepting a job offer mid-programme counts as leaving early, which is why the institute permits campus placement participation but not joining before the M.Tech ends.

The stipend is the headline, and the sponsored tuition is the part applicants miss. IIIT Naya Raipur lists the fellowship at Rs 50000 per month in both years with tuition up to 2 lakhs sponsored by the Government of Chhattisgarh, along with a laptop or desktop loaded with the necessary software, free but subject to availability and a caution deposit.

The rest of the bill stays with you. The institute answers plainly that the state sponsors only the tuition fee, and that hostel accommodation, mess, examination fees, medical insurance and SAC charges are borne by the fellows, who must stay on campus because IIIT Naya Raipur is fully residential.

In cash terms for the 2026 batch, candidates reporting after the first round were asked for a demand draft of Rs 91,000 with the tuition fee of Rs 60000 waived as sponsored by the state.

What to prepare

Documents required

The list myScheme carries is the application-stage list. The heavier one comes at reporting, and it is where admissions actually fall apart. Alongside the marksheets, degree, GATE scorecard and Chhattisgarh domicile certificate, the institute asks at verification for the transfer certificate, migration certificate and character certificate in original, a medical fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner, four colour passport photographs, an anti-ragging undertaking reference id and an undertaking of programme completion on a bond paper of Rs 250.

Two conditions on the category certificates are easy to fail. SC, ST and OBC-NCL certificates must be issued in the candidate's own name by competent authorities of the Government of Chhattisgarh only, and the OBC-NCL certificate for the 2026 cycle had to be issued after 1st April 2026. A certificate from another state, or an older non-creamy-layer certificate, does not travel.

How to apply

The application never touches a scholarship portal. The scheme's myScheme record lists no application link and records the benefit as non-DBT, and the fellowship's own state site has no form on it either: its How to Apply block simply points readers at the IIIT-NR website. The one route is the IIIT NR admission portal at erp.iiitnr.edu.in, with a fee of Rs. 500; offline and emailed applications are refused outright.

Tracking works differently here from a scheme that pays into a bank account, so do not sit waiting for an SMS. Neither the institute nor the state publishes an applicant status page. What IIIT Naya Raipur does instead is post the whole cycle as a run of notices on the CMIT admission page, each one a list you look for your application number in: for 2026, eligible applicants for the skill test, non-eligible applicants, the skill test answer key, the merit list, the first round of allotment, a second round against the seats left vacant, and then a further allotment against a seat a round-two candidate gave up. The state portal at cmitfellowship.cgstate.gov.in offers only a user ID and password box, with no applicant registration behind it, so it is not where a pending application is checked.

How winners are picked

Selection process

Every eligible candidate sits a skill test, and the merit list is built from GATE at 50% weightage and the skill test at 50%. That balance is worth noting because it moved: the 2025 cycle ran on GATE at 70% weightage and the skill test at 30%, so the test now carries a great deal more of the decision than it did in the previous cycle.

The test itself is written in advance rather than left vague. It is offline, and the published pattern is 100 marks split into a 70-mark written MCQ paper and a 30-mark practical, the written half covering programming aptitude for 25 marks, analytical and quantitative ability for 20, communication and comprehension for 10 and digital problem solving for 15, and the practical half covering web and coding skills for 15 marks and data handling in Python or C for 15.

Selection then follows the merit list under state reservation rules, first round first, with a further round only if seats fall vacant. The 2026 numbers give the shape of it: 112 candidates reached the merit list, 25 were offered provisional admission on 24 July, five more were offered seats on 3 August once the first round left gaps, and a further offer on 10 August filled a seat a round-two candidate had withdrawn from. A merit-list place is not an offer, and the institute says so on the list itself.

Fine print

Terms & conditions

The single condition worth reading twice concerns what happens afterwards. Asked directly about guaranteed government jobs for fellows who complete the programme, IIIT Naya Raipur answers that there is no provision of any guaranteed Government jobs, and that whether the Government of Chhattisgarh considers its own fellows afterwards rests on prevalent norms and rules. The M.Tech is real and the governance experience is real; a claim on state employment is not part of the deal.

The other binding terms are residence and assignment. Fellows are accommodated within the IIIT-NR campus for the duration of the programme, including during department engagement, and the department a fellow works in is assigned by CHiPS. Campus placement participation is allowed on the same footing as other M.Tech programmes, with joining permitted only after completion, and any deviation invokes the bond clause.
