Technology Fellowship and Patent Promotion Scheme(TFAPPS)
Overview
About TFAPPS
The Technology Fellowship and Patent Promotion Scheme is a Goa government programme for technology teachers who want to deepen their expertise in emerging fields. It sits within the Goa Start-up Policy 2017 and is run by the Start-up Promotion Cell (SPC), the state body set up to build Goa's start-up ecosystem.
It is aimed at educators in Goa's technical institutes working in areas such as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, 3D printing, data science, drones, and virtual and augmented reality. Selected fellows are sent to Centres of Excellence in India and abroad for summer schools and short-term training in their area of specialisation. On their return, they are expected to act as master trainers and mentors to students and student start-ups, teaching at the Centres of Excellence and Advanced Maker Labs that the Department of Information Technology plans to set up.
The benefit is composite. Fellows receive an educational grant paid across several years. An educator who registers a business or value-driven patent in their field, whether through individual research or in collaboration with students, can apply to the SPC for a separate patent grant.
Eligibility is open to technology educators in technical educational institutes in Goa. A limited number of fellowships are awarded each year, one to a focus area, and the SPC assesses applicants through interviews and presentations before deciding whom to select. It is not an entitlement.
