Overview

About S30

The Super 30 Scheme is not a coaching class the Tripura government runs. It is a fee grant. The Directorate of Secondary Education picks 30 students out of the state's Class 10 cohort in each cycle it runs and pays for a two-year JEE or NEET programme at a nationally reputed coaching institute the student chooses, anywhere outside Tripura, with coaching capped at Rs 1,00,000 and accommodation at Rs 1,40,000 a year (Directorate of Secondary Education notification No. F.13(5-37)-SE/GL-/2020(L-II)). The seat count is the scheme's hard limit, and everything else about it, the marks bar, the test date, the school list, has moved from one cycle to the next.

Tripura runs the scheme through a dedicated Super 30 Cell inside the Directorate of Secondary Education, and the money moves as a state grant rather than as a scholarship credited to a student. A 2021-22 expenditure sanction shows how that works in practice: the Finance Department released Rs 72.00 lakh for Grants for Super 30 that year, and the Directorate sub-allocated Rs 4.20 lakh of it to pay, by online transfer, for three students admitted to Allen Career Institute at Kota in Rajasthan (expenditure sanction memo No. F.8(2-23)-SE/PLAN/2020). That is an expenditure order against a departmental budget head with a copy endorsed to the institute, and myScheme records the scheme as sitting outside the Direct Benefit Transfer route (myScheme). The student is still paid by online transfer, but the money moves only once a sanction order exists for that financial year, so the timing follows the Directorate's budget calendar rather than the coaching institute's fee schedule.

Almost nothing a search returns for the phrase belongs to this scheme. Anand Kumar's Super 30 in Patna, run under the banner of the Ramanujan School of Mathematics, is a privately funded programme that gives 30 students free coaching, lodging and food to sit the IIT entrance (Super 30, Patna). Tripura's scheme borrowed the name and nothing else: different state, different selection test, different money.

Calendar

Important dates

The Directorate has never fixed a calendar month for the scheme. It has run the test in September, in June and in April across cycles, and the one stable rule is that the test is tied to the Class 10 board year rather than to a date.

CycleApplications closeSelection test
202110 September 2021, extended to 15 September 202121 September 2021
2023-2431 May 202311 June 2023
202631 March 2026First week of April 2026, tentative

Because the window has closed as early as March and as late as September, the safe habit is to watch the Directorate's notice board from the start of the Class 10 board year rather than to wait for a month.

Who can apply

Eligibility criteria

Family income is the one condition where the scheme's own paperwork disagrees with the national directory that lists it. Every notification the Directorate has issued for the scheme, and the registration portal for the latest cycle, sets the bar at family income below Rs 8 lakh a year (notification No. F.13(5-37)-SE/GL-/2020(L-II), tripurasuper30.com). The myScheme entry for the scheme still carries an income line of Rs 1,00,000, an eighth of the notified figure (myScheme), so the Directorate's notification for the cycle in hand is the document that binds.

The academic bar sits before the board result, not after it. The 2023 notification asked for a pass in the Class X pre-board or pre-test with 50% marks from a government or government-aided school of Tripura, together with appearance in that year's Class X board final (notification No. F.13(5-37)-SE/GL-/2020(L-II)). For the 2026 cycle the portal moved the qualifying exam a year earlier still: a pass in Class IX in 2024-25 with 50% marks, plus appearance in the Class X board final from a government or government-aided school situated in Tripura, with Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and Eklavya Model Residential Schools counted in (tripurasuper30.com). Residency is enforced through that school list as much as through the PRTC produced at counselling, so a student at a private unaided school in Agartala falls outside the scheme however good the marks.

Caste is not a filter on entry, though the myScheme record reads as though it were, listing Scheduled Tribe, Scheduled Caste or Person with Disability community membership among the eligibility conditions (myScheme). The Directorate's own conditionalities carry no such clause. The 2023 notification applies existing State Reservation Norms to the merit list and reserves one seat for a Divyang candidate, and it lists an SC, ST or PH certificate among the counselling documents with the qualifier "if any" (notification No. F.13(5-37)-SE/GL-/2020(L-II)).

The applicant should be a resident of Tripura.
The applicant should be a student.
The applicant should belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST)/ Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Person with Disability (PH) community.
The student should have passed the class-10th Pre-Board/ Pre-Test Exam from the government-recognized school of Tripura with 50% marks.
The applicant should be appearing for the class 10th board final exam.
The annual income of the family of the applicant should not exceed ₹1,00,000/-.

Who cannot apply

Exclusions

The Directorate has never published a disqualification list for the scheme, and the myScheme record leaves that field blank. What the notifications rule out by construction is narrower and worth knowing: coaching taken inside Tripura is not funded, because the grant is written for an institute outside the state; the qualifying cohort is fixed per cycle and a student outside it has no route in, whether that cohort is the TBSE Madhyamik 2021 pass-out list (advertisement and notification No. F.13(5-37)-SE/GL-I/2020(L)) or the students appearing in the Class X board final of 2026 (tripurasuper30.com); and the government or government-aided school condition shuts out the private unaided sector.

Continuation

Renewal conditions

Nothing in the scheme asks a selected student to reapply. The award runs for the full two-year coaching programme, and the accommodation component carries a built-in escalation of 5% in the second year (notification No. F.13(5-37)-SE/GL-/2020(L-II)). No published order sets a Class 11 score, an attendance floor or any other test the student has to clear for the second year's money to be released.

What you get

Award & benefits

The two caps are ceilings on what the state will pay, not a lump sum handed over. A student who picks an institute charging more than the cap, or a hostel dearer than the accommodation line, meets the difference from home.

ComponentCeilingPeriod
Coaching feeRs 1,00,000Notification attaches no annual qualifier
AccommodationRs 1,40,000Per annum, plus 5% in the second year

The notification prints both caps in a single sentence with "per annum" attached to the accommodation figure, so a family budgeting for Kota should confirm with the Super 30 Cell whether the coaching cap runs each year or across the two (notification No. F.13(5-37)-SE/GL-/2020(L-II)). There is no stipend, no travel allowance and no book grant alongside those two lines.

  • The scheme covers the coaching fees (capped at ₹1,00,000/-) & the accommodation fees of ₹1,40,000/- per annum (with 5% extra in 2nd year), for attaining a two-year coaching programme for JEE/ NEET at a nationally reputed Coaching Institution outside Tripura.

What to prepare

Documents required

Two document rules trip candidates up. The first is that the Class 10 board marksheet is a threshold and not just a proof: the notification asks for a marksheet showing 60% and above, in original, at counselling (notification No. F.13(5-37)-SE/GL-/2020(L-II)). A student can clear the selection test and still fall out at that step.

The second is the income certificate, which has to come from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate or the Deputy Commissioner of Magistrate and is produced in original. When the Directorate relaxed the 2021 cycle it allowed the certificate to be submitted after the selection process closed rather than with the form (relaxation notification No. F.13(5-37)-SE/GL-I/2020(M)/VOL-I), so the sequence is worth confirming for the cycle in hand. On the online form itself, the uploaded photograph and signature each have to be under 100 kb (tripurasuper30.com).

Original Income Certificate issued by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM)/ Deputy Commissioner of Magistrate (DCM).
Online generated Selection Test Admit Card.
Class X Board final mark sheet (60% and above marks applicable) including production of original marksheets.
SC/ ST/ PH Certificate (if any).
Permanent Resident Tripura Certificate (PRTC).
Any other document, as required.

Step by step

How to apply

Applications run on the scheme's own portal, tripurasuper30.com, and not on the National Scholarship Portal. Registration starts from a mobile number: enter the number with the captcha, receive a one-time password on it, validate the number and set a password, then log in, fill the registration page and print the completed application (tripurasuper30.com). The printout is itself a counselling document, so it should not be closed unprinted.

That login is also the tracking route. There is no separate status page and no application number to quote: the login form takes the same mobile number and the password set at registration, and the portal is where the selection test admit card is released for download in a window the Directorate announces on the same instructions panel (tripurasuper30.com). Payment status is a different matter and the portal does not show it. The money is released as a departmental expenditure sanction against the year's budget, drawn by the Directorate's own drawing and disbursing officer and paid to the selected students through the online payment system (expenditure sanction memo No. F.8(2-23)-SE/PLAN/2020), and myScheme records the scheme as outside the Direct Benefit Transfer route (myScheme). Those sanction memos are published on the Directorate's own site, which is the only public place a family can see whether the year's money has actually been released.

The online route is recent. In the 2021 cycle the Directorate took applications on paper at the District Education Offices, on a printed format that asked for the Madhyamik admit card number and attested marksheet copies (advertisement and notification No. F.13(5-37)-SE/GL-I/2020(L)).

How winners are picked

Selection process

Selection is a written test first and a counselling call second. The Joint Selection Test is set on the TBSE Class 10 standard syllabus in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology, asked as multiple-choice questions and answered on an OMR sheet (relaxation notification No. F.13(5-37)-SE/GL-I/2020(M)/VOL-I). Candidates sit it at a centre named on the admit card, which the head of the school attests before the exam.

The merit list from that test drives everything after it. Students are called to counselling in rank order through the heads of the schools they appeared from, and the state's reservation norms are applied at that stage, with one seat held for a Divyang candidate (notification No. F.13(5-37)-SE/GL-/2020(L-II)). Rank also decides choice of institute in practice, since the pick is made during counselling.

The marks bar has been the softest part of the process. The 2021 cycle opened at a cut-off of 70% in Madhyamik (advertisement and notification No. F.13(5-37)-SE/GL-I/2020(L)), and the Directorate reduced it to 60% while the window was still open (relaxation notification No. F.13(5-37)-SE/GL-I/2020(M)/VOL-I). By 2026 the entry test was open on 50% in Class IX instead (tripurasuper30.com).

Fine print

Terms & conditions

Two conditions bind the choice of institute: it has to be nationally reputed, and it has to be outside Tripura. The Directorate does not publish an approved list, and the 2021-22 sanction records Allen Career Institute at Kota as an institute students had joined, which is a record of where students went and not an endorsement (expenditure sanction memo No. F.8(2-23)-SE/PLAN/2020).

The grant is also a budget line with a shelf life. The 2021-22 sub-allocation for the scheme was drawn against the Revenue Scholarship and Stipend head under Demand No. 19 and stayed valid only up to 31.03.2022 (expenditure sanction memo No. F.8(2-23)-SE/PLAN/2020), so the release the coaching money comes out of expires with the state's financial year rather than with the coaching year.

Contact

The scheme is administered by the Super 30 Cell, Directorate of Secondary Education, Government of Tripura, at Shiksha Bhawan, Office Lane, Agartala, Tripura (West), the address the scheme's own application format prints for the Director, Secondary Education (Super 30 application format), and the Directorate's notification points queries to its official website at schooleducation.tripura.gov.in (notification No. F.13(5-37)-SE/GL-/2020(L-II)). The District Education Offices were the counter for the scheme while applications were still on paper, holding the printed application format as well as taking it back in (advertisement and notification No. F.13(5-37)-SE/GL-I/2020(L)). Since the move online the Directorate has published no dedicated helpline number or email address for the scheme.
