About SGBCS
The State Government Backward Class Scholarship (Class 6 to 10) is a scheme of the School Education Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh. It pays a cash scholarship to Backward Class students who are studying in Classes 6 to 10 in the state.
The department runs it to keep schooling continuous for children from Backward Class families through the middle and secondary years, when the risk of dropping out is highest. The benefit is paid as money rather than as a fee waiver or an in-kind item, and the annual amount is graded by class, so a student in a higher class receives a larger sum. The rates are fixed by the department.
The scheme is meant for students of the Backward Classes (OBC) enrolled in Classes 6 to 10 within Madhya Pradesh. As a state welfare scholarship it is directed at resident students in the state's schools, with the specific rates, any income conditions and the documents required set and verified through the school and district education system.

Eligibility criteria
| The applicant should be a student. | |
| The student should be a permanent resident of Madhya Pradesh. | |
| The student should belong to the Backward Classes or Minorities community. | |
| Students from Class 6 to 10 are eligible for the benefits under this scheme. | |
| The parents or guardians should not be income taxpayers or own more than 10 acres of land. | |
| Note: There should not have been any increase in the income of the parents or guardians in the past year. |
What you get
Award & benefits
- Under this scheme, scholarships are provided to Backward Classes students at the following rates:
- Class 6 to 8: ₹200/- per year (for boys) and ₹300/- per year (for girls) - Class 9 to 10: ₹300/- per year (for boys) and ₹400/- per year (for girls)
- Note: The scholarship will be transferred directly into the student's bank account.
