About SGSTS

The largest sum this scholarship pays in a year is Rs 600, and it reaches only girls in Classes 6 to 8. Boys in those classes get Rs 200, and a child in Classes 1 to 5 gets Rs 250 whether a boy or a girl, on the rates Madhya Pradesh sets out in its own resource book of social protection schemes. Nothing in it is tested against what the household earns, and nothing in it is filed online by the family: one form goes in at the school, and the school's scholarship department head is the officer the state names to check it.

Madhya Pradesh runs this at state level, through the Janjati Karya Vibhaag and the Directorate of Public Instruction, and the entry stops there. The only verifiers it names are the school authorities and the school's scholarship department head. The state's parallel SC entries for the same classes name a district office above the school as well; this one does not, which is worth knowing before a family takes an unpaid claim to a district headquarters (Social Protection Schemes for Children and Adolescents in Madhya Pradesh, AIGGPA and SHRC, entries 24, 25, 55 and 56).

No newer rate list for these classes appears on the department's own site. Its live scholarship page describes only the post-matric award, for higher secondary and college students, which leaves the resource book as the published source for what a primary or middle school child is actually paid (Chhatravritti, Janjatiya Karya Vibhag, Government of Madhya Pradesh).

The tribal groups named on the Classes 1 to 5 rate line are not a random selection. Bharia, Baiga and Sahariya are the groups Madhya Pradesh identifies as its particularly vulnerable tribal groups, and the state runs a dedicated set of development agencies for them in districts including Sheopur, Shivpuri, Guna, Gwalior, Dindori, Mandla, Umaria, Shahdol, Balaghat and Tamia in Chhindwara (PVTG list, Tribal Affairs Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh). Those are the districts where the youngest slab of this payment mostly lands.

Neither source carries a calendar for this one. The scheme record leaves its open and close dates blank, and the resource book entry describes a window nowhere. Since renewal needs no fresh application, the date that actually decides whether a payment arrives is the one the school works to when it enters and updates its students for the session, and that is set school by school rather than announced by the department.

Who can apply

Eligibility criteria

A child qualifies by being a Scheduled Tribe student native to Madhya Pradesh and on the roll of a school in Classes 1 to 8. Everything after that is paperwork, and one piece of it is stricter than a school file usually holds: the state entry asks for an attested photocopy of a permanent caste certificate, attested by departmental employees, rather than the provisional or school-issued copy most families have to hand. The same entry records, for both class bands, that no income certificate is required (Social Protection Schemes for Children and Adolescents in Madhya Pradesh, AIGGPA and SHRC, entries 55 and 56).

One difference between the two published sources is worth naming rather than resolving. The special backward tribe names sit on the Classes 1 to 5 rate line in the scheme record below, while the state resource book writes the eligibility for both bands simply as Scheduled Tribe students holding that permanent caste certificate. The person who settles which reading applies to a particular child is the school's scholarship department head, the same officer the resource book names as the verifier.

Exclusions

Neither the scheme record nor the state resource book publishes an exclusion list for this award. What the entry does make binding is documentary: the attested permanent caste certificate and Madhya Pradesh domicile are the two things checked at the school, and a claim that cannot show them fails at that check rather than at any later stage.

Nothing is refiled. The award carries forward for as long as the child stays on the roll, and a year's failure does not break it.

What changes without any action from the family is the amount, because the state treats Classes 1 to 5 and Classes 6 to 8 as two separate entries with their own rates. A boy moving from Class 5 into Class 6 sees his yearly payment fall from Rs 250 to Rs 200. A girl making the same move sees hers rise from Rs 250 to Rs 600 (Social Protection Schemes for Children and Adolescents in Madhya Pradesh, AIGGPA and SHRC, entries 55 and 56).

The rates are fixed by class band and, from Class 6, by gender.

The entry records cash against this scheme and nothing else. There is no fee head, no book or uniform component and no hostel allowance riding on it, so a family should read the figures above as the whole of what this particular scholarship is worth in a year.

• Under this scheme, scholarships will be provided to the students belonging to Scheduled Tribes at the following rates:
• For Classes 1 to 5: ₹250/- per year (for 10 months) to all girls and boys belonging to special backward tribes (Baiga, Saharia, and Bharia).
• For Classes 6 to 8: ₹200/- per year (for 10 months) for boys.
• ₹600/- per year (for 10 months) for girls.
• Note: The scholarship will be deposited directly into the student's bank account.

What to prepare

Documents required

The list the school asks for holds no surprises, but two items on it decide whether the claim clears.

The first is the caste certificate, which the state entry specifies as a permanent one attested by departmental employees; a provisional or school-issued copy is not what the entry describes. The second is the bank account, because the scheme record has the money deposited directly into the student's account rather than a parent's, so an account in the child's own name is what the school's entry has to carry. The Samagra ID and the Madhya Pradesh domicile certificate complete what the entry lists.

How to apply

The family starts this one on paper, at the school. The resource book records a single application form for the scheme, submitted at the school the child already attends, and the scheme record lists the application mode as offline with no application link of its own, naming the Principal as the person to approach (myScheme record). What travels online afterwards is the school's entry on the state's Shiksha Portal, made from the register and the certificates handed over.

That leaves a parent with one narrow question worth asking, and it is not about a deadline: has the school made the entry for this session, and made it against the right class. The class matters here more than it does in most awards, because the rate changes at Class 6.

Checking the Status Against the School's DISE Code

Madhya Pradesh publishes a screen for exactly this question, and it is built around the school rather than the child: pick the session, type in the school's DISE code, choose a class, choose a stage, and it prints the names sitting there (School Wise Scholarship Status of Students, MP Shiksha Portal). Running it is therefore a request to the school office, not something a family can do from home.

Because no reapplication falls due for this scholarship, the stage worth asking about is the first one on that list, an application not registered. That is a continuing child whose profile was never entered for the session, and it is fixed inside the school, not at the department.

Where the school confirms the entry and the account still shows nothing by the end of the session, the state's grievance route takes it from there and issues a complaint number the family can check for itself (grievance status, CM Helpline, Government of Madhya Pradesh).

How winners are picked

Selection process

No merit list, no test and no interview is published for this award, and no ceiling on the number of scholarships appears in the entry. The state sets out an eligibility test and a verification step and stops there, which makes the scholarship behave as an entitlement: a Scheduled Tribe child on the roll in these classes, whose certificate and domicile clear at the school, is paid at the published rate.

The conditions attached to this award are few and each of them favours the student. Failing a year does not stop the scholarship, though the entry allows for one such year and says nothing about a second. No income certificate is called for, in either class band. And the payment lands in the student's own bank account, so it is the account details on the school's entry, not the family's, that the disbursal follows.
