About SAESC
The State Art Exhibition (Student Category) is an annual visual-arts exhibition and competition for students in Goa. It is organised by Kala Academy Goa, the state's cultural body under the Department of Art, Culture and Museums, Government of Goa, to give local students a platform to show their creative work and to encourage practice in the visual arts.
Entries are invited across three sections of visual art: Painting and Graphic Prints, Applied Art and Graphic Design, and Sculpture. A panel of judges appointed by Kala Academy selects the exhibits and decides the awards, and may withhold an award in any section if the entries do not meet the required standard. Selected works receive cash prizes, so the benefit under this scheme is a cash award rather than a stipend or fee waiver.
The exhibition is meant for Goan fine-art students, who submit their work together with a bonafide certificate from their institution. Students who enter under this Student Category are not permitted to compete in the parallel Artist Category of the same exhibition. The event is long-running: its 50th edition was held in 2025-26, with entries received at the Art Gallery, Kala Academy, Campal, Panaji.

Who can apply
Eligibility criteria
| A participant must be a bona fide student of any recognised art college or institution, studying one or more of the subjects in the exhibition sections. | |
| If an art student submits their entry in the Student Category, they are not eligible to participate in the Artist Category. | |
| Submission must include an official bonafide certificate from the student's institution; entries without it will not be accepted. | |
| Declarations for Originality and Prior Exhibits | |
| Each exhibit must be the student’s original work, neither a copy nor an imitation. A declaration to this effect must appear on the back of each entry. | |
| If the work has previously won an award or been displayed in prior exhibitions by Kala Academy or any other institution, it will not be accepted, and a declaration to that effect must also be submitted. | |
| Award Winners' Restriction for Next Year | |
| A participant who receives an award in a given year is not eligible to receive an award in the same section in the following year |

- Special Prizes: Ravji V. Gaunekar Memorial Prize by The Goa Hindu Association: ₹1,000/-
- Artist to Artist Award by Smt. Prafulla Dahanukar: ₹15,000/-
- Late Hanuman B. Neogi Memorial Prize: ₹1,000/-
